Receiving a Compostella in memory of someone who has passed away

You need to ask for a vicarie pro dedication to be added to your Compostela. https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/how-to-get-compostela-noted-for-camino-walked-in-memory-deceased-relative-in-vicarie-pro.81620/

    Latest Camino Fad .

Just had a look at the properties of methane. Less dense than air and therefore another possible lifting gas. On routes like the Primitivo where there is frequent access to fabada asturiana and sidra natural it might be a useful alternative...

BBC "Pilgrimage" series 6 - North Wales Pilgrim Way

It seems that the tv series has generated quite a bit of interest in the route. The official website has received half a million visits since the programmes were released. https://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/24243086.website-receives-500k-hits-north-wales-pilgrimage-show/

    How many stamps?

I'm one of the bare minimum sort. On my last Camino Frances I just collected sellos from the albergues I stayed in and didn't bother with two per day after Sarria as I had no intention of asking for a Compostela. I only used one side of the SJPDP credencial. Some people might use up two or three...

    The final few kms

Walk the Sanabres rather than the Frances and enter the city that way? I find that more attractive than the route in from Monte do Gozo. But Santiago is a large city and you have to pass through some "ordinary" Spain before you reach the cathedral whatever route you choose. Like the suburbs of...

    Completion Certificate

By "completion certificate" I assume you mean the Compostela. The pilgrim office is open 9am to 7pm. They ask you to provide your details online in advance - links to register on the pilgrim office website. You can collect the Compostela on the day you arrive or later if you wish. Most people...

The booking ahead problem: Is it a problem?

I have a pick-and-mix approach. I find my mobile phone and internet access very useful and I wouldn't choose to leave them behind these days. Hot showers are a modern luxury I very much enjoy! Some recent developments like luggage transport I can happily do without.

What do you wish you had worried less about?

I don't think I had any particular worries about my first Camino. Just excitement. Of course if I had known more about the Camino in advance I might have had more to be anxious about. Perhaps just as well that the forum and Facebook weren't around at the time...

The booking ahead problem: Is it a problem?

I think there has been a vicious circle of growing dependence on modern technologies. When I walked my first Camino no one used mobile phones or the internet because for all practical purposes they did not exist. The guidebooks often did not even give phone numbers for refugios or list full...

Belgian royals walking another part of the Camino

I am in the peculiar position of doing both! I am very fortunate in having the time to travel more or less at will with very few obligations to tie me to home. A very good friend has a demanding job and so has to fit his pilgrimage journeys into limited holiday times. Although I mostly walk solo...

    Walking with headphones?

Used to be a major part of the joy of the Camino Frances too. I walked my first Camino in August and September and met less than 30 pilgrims over 800km or so. And spent perhaps half of my nights alone in refugios. That is still the type of experience I generally look for in my Camino walking. I...

    Walking with headphones?

I do expect to meet other people. When I do meet others on the way I usually greet them politely in passing and move on. When I stop for a drink or a meal or at night in the albergues I am usually happy to enter into conversation. But for me time spent while walking is deeply personal and best...

What do you wish you had worried less about?

I do not know if there is a national plan for dealing with them. Individual local councils sometimes have dedicated email addresses for reporting.

    Walking with headphones?

I'm about 50% in agreement with you. I walk without headphones. Most of the time I do not want to talk with others either. I don't see why talking with others should be considered an essential element of walking a Camino. Most of the time I choose my routes and times to keep that to a minimum!

What do you wish you had worried less about?

Though just to be even more annoying in Spain they are mostly associated with pine trees rather than oak. There was a Spanish government warning that they were emerging earlier than usual this year...

Belgian royals walking another part of the Camino

They have done a pretty good job in keeping their Camino walks low-key. And the press seem to have been helpful by running their stories mostly after the family have finished their walking for that year.

Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

My usual walk to the pub along a former railway line. Been postponed a few times this week by bad weather and a heavy head cold and cough :-( On the mend now though. Warm sunny day. One of the less happy sights today is the emergence of Japanese knotweed. This part of Wales is particularly badly...

    Ordering beer in Spain

In Spain it is widely used as a generic term for cerveza con limon. A number of different brewing companies label their products as 'Radler'. Not a specific brand.
