What do you wish you had worried less about?

Before I'd ever walked a Camino I worried most about sleeping in albergues and finding meals. So first time around I used a company that booked me hotels and evening meals, on the Camino Portuguese. I learnt a lot that trip and determined to have a go myself, carrying my pack and sleeping in at...

    Help using Wise Pilgrim app

You should find comments beneath the stage if you scroll up. Also if you click on any accommodation name you will find any comments that have been left. Not every place has been commented on.

    Shower/bathroom etiquette in the albergues?

I always change within the shower cubicle. It can be snug! ALWAYS take your valuables with you. I use ultralight dry bags for my clothes, and have a small Heroclip (a type of S hook) in case there is no hook. You'll be surprised at how quickly it all feels normal 😊

A Camino "dry run" - what I learned from the Milford Track

Well done indeed. What a great experience and opportunity to learn really helpful lessons. I loved it when living out of my backpack became familiar and simple. Now, at home, I long for that simplicity and order. I'm working towards it but have a long way to go!

    Lodging in the Meseta

Buen Camino I'm currently in El Burgo Ranero and enjoying lovely walking conditions. I'd say be aware that Mansilla de las Mulas is a pinch point with no municipal albergue. You might want to plan to stay in a different place or book a few days ahead.

Seeking Information about Bed Bugs on the Camino de Santiago

Bed bugs are not confined to albergues! Anywhere where you get a lot of tourists passing through and moving from place to place is vulnerable. Your best protection is to keep your pack off the floor, but never put it on a bed. Do not spread your belongings about. Bed bugs come out at night and...

    What surprised you the most?

First time: that I actually could walk such a long way! Subsequently: how much I enjoyed meeting other pilgrims. I am a true introvert and love walking alone etc. I had thought other people were something to avoid!! Meeting and talking with so many very different people, from so many different...

    Bed bugs in El Acebo!

My understanding of bed bugs is that they will move from an empty room to one containing people when they want to feed! I was bitten when I stayed at La Casa del Peregrino in El Acebo last October. The showers there were the dirtiest I encountered by a long shot. But bedbugs can be a problem in...

    Walking with my grandson

I have a friend who walked with her family: husband mid 70's, daughter and husband in 40's and triplet grandsons around 13. They walked from Tui to SdC in March. They did use private accommodation because they were quite a large group. I know the boys really enjoyed it and are keen for more. My...

    Spider bites?

I'm a pretty reactive person. It's good to hear that your problem was recognised and helped in Spain. Did you know they were spider bites or were you told? Some images suggest you can see the bite marks as 2 little dots.

    Spider bites?

The video I saw showed bedbugs on a treated surface. The company that posted the video on You Tube are: " Jdt International, LLC was founded in 2003. The Company's line of business includes the manufacturing of house furnishings, such as blankets, bedspreads, sheets, table clothes, towels and...

    Spider bites?

Unfortunately unless you seal yourself into your sleep sack there is nothing to stop the little devil's from crawling in and biting you should they so choose. Any treatment that kills them takes at least 2 hours to work. So at least you won't carry them with you. These days I believe bed bugs...

    Spider bites?

Interesting to get my suspicions confirmed, thank you both. I know how to look for bed bugs and how to protect against them as best I can. Spider bites are a mystery to me. Interestingly the pilgrim with the bites assumed they couldn't be bed bugs because she slept in a silk sheet. I did suggest...

    Spider bites?

On my recent Camino Portuguese a pilgrim I met had some nasty bites, mostly on her legs. I suggested they were bed bugs but the hospitalero (in a private albergue in Pontevedra) said they were spider bites. They did not have the little blisters nor did they itch. However they were in the the...

what to do with pack while in a cathedral

The Correos Office in Santiago (near the Pilgims Office) can store your backpack or bike for a small fee per day. In other circumstances I either took my pack with me or left it in my accommodation.

    Pre-Camino day in Bilbao

Buen Camino. I really enjoyed starting the Camino Frances from Logrono. The bus ride from Bilbao was nice too, seeing the countryside as we went. I'm glad that Bilbao welcomed you. Rioja is a beautiful landscape to walk through and get you into the Pilgrim experience. I couldn't find a sello in...

    Guidebook Format

It's interesting isn't it; the one thing that always occurs on the forum is that there is no 'one size fits all' 😅 I have used and like the Brierly guides but my preference now is to carry a paper Village to Village guide and use a Wise Pilgrim app on my phone. I find the Village to Village...

Compostela from Santiago, encompassing walk to Muxia/Finisterre

I suspect they will not add distance beyond Santiago but don't know for a fact. I bought a delightful credential dedicated to the Finisterre and Muxia walk with pictures next to the sello spaces of the places you visit. It was about €2 or so and a really lovely memento. You can also get separate...
