How often do you take a break?

I wouldn't call it a rule of thumb, but the rhythm of my Camino Day usually goes something like this (depending on all the variables and opportunities others have mentioned): Walk 2 hours; short break of 10-15 minutes (shoes off, maybe first or second coffee): Walk 2 hours; longer break about an...

    Soft tips for new walkers

And when I put the socks back on, I put them on the opposite feet. They feel so new.

    Celebrating my old age

Wow. I have completed three Caminos since eing 70. You are all making me feel very blessed.

How far do most typically walk before resting?

I don't stick to this rigidly, but my general rhythm is: Walk two hours, have a brief stop (15 min or so) to have a snack, take off shoes and put back on; Walk two hours, stop longer (maybe lunch?), take off shoes and change socks to the opposite feet Walk two hours and a short break, take off...

    Where to next? Favourite caminos

I completed La Plata / Sanabrés a week or so ago, and my 'stages' from Ourense were: Oseira (31km); A Laxe (32); Dornelas (22); Deseiro (20); Santiago (11). So that's 5 days, with a very short final "day" into Santiago. I'm 75 and average about 4.5km/h. I hope this helps ....

    Privacy in the shower

I once stayed for a month at a (Saudi) hotel in Riyadh that had a very good (men only) gym, which did have a large communal change room. There was a conspicuous notice in English informing visiting guests that it is culturally inappropriate to be fully naked in the presence of others and to...

Lost & Found FOUND A COMPESTELA

Hmm - maybe Audrey Jones lost it? (Sorry - inconsiderate, but I couldn't resist. I hope you find her.) Actually the Pilgrim Office might have enough details to assist, eg email address.

    Outraged

That would be telling! Anyway, I have gone beyond the outrage now. I'm not here to be outraged, but to be grateful and to forgive ❤️

    Outraged

No on-site hospitaleros at these municipal / Xunta albergues.

    Outraged

It's not about me, really. Tomorrow I have booked to stay in a hotel and enjoy a special city, and I don't think they are the type to take a longer detour to a monastery. So hopefully I won't see them again. But that said, surely nothing can condone such behaviour. Why should I change my...

    Outraged

I don't know where else to express this, so here goes. I'm currently a pilgrim on Via de la Plata/Sanabrés. I won't say where I am but let's just say nearing Ourense. There seem to be very few people on the route (avoiding words such as pilgrim). But there is a small group of men from the host...

    Visa requirements for Australians?

I believe the ESTA is a coming requirement for ALL nationalities but the requirement has not yet commenced. 2024 rings a bell?

    Using booking.com on your Camino

Ok each to their comfort zone of course. I'm 74 and book by phone, usually.

    Using booking.com on your Camino

Most of the comments here relate to costs comparisons for us, the users. But we need to remember, too, that bxxxxing.com charges the accommodation provider a fee, reputed in some circles to be more than 30% of what we pay. I would rather that money stayed with my host.

Etiquette/ what to wear at churches

At one pilgrim Mass I attended in the Cathedral at Santiago, the chief celebrant,in both Spanish and English, invited any " who are a baptised Christian and who love the Lord" to come forward and receive the Sacrament. I was quite surprised, but joyfully accepted the invitation.

Is it just me? (Enjoying urban stages)

You'll love the walk out of Lisbon. Range of streetscapes, architecture, industrial/residential, tiles. Did I mention tiles??

“The worst footprint of the pilgrims”

Oh wow. I did exactly that. I left the small stone I'd brought from my garden in the snow at the base of el Cruz, and picked up a pebble from the roadside and brought it home. It has its little shelf in the garden!
