I soaked my PJ's and bedding in the Paddy Pallin brand and had no problems with bugs or allergic reactions. Another tip - sleep on the top bunk because the bugs will fall down onto the guy in the bottom bunk !
Might sound obvious, but I'd also suggest learning Spanish for the food items you require or cant eat, maybe print some sheets because I was surprised by the lack of English spoken on the camino.
Paddy Palin in Sydney has a good range, I also soaked my PJ's and pillow slip. I think the bottle cost about $20 - think of it as an insurance policy. I never had issues with bed bugs.
