Wouldn't it just! I suspect part of the problem is that the EHIC provides the sort of state care that residents of the country are in would get, not what you could expect in your home country. If (like most brits) you expect the NHS to cover everything, you might be sorely disappointed...
Rebekah, you're quite right to say the EHIC does not cover medical tourism. But it does cover "any medical treatment that becomes neccessary dring your trip", which includes the ongoing care of chronic conditions and non-emergency conditions such as migraines/tendonitis etc. Details are on the...
I'm gutted - I just realised I calculated my leave wrong and thus have one week, not three. So my head is full of glorious ideas, but I don't have the time to walk them.
Thank you for all the suggestions. Am trying not to sniffle into my (non-existant) tinto that I can't follow them.
That's brilliant, thank you so much. It sounds like that the gathering of sellos (already precious for the memories they carry, even if I don't make use of them as an alibi!) will provide the perfect excuse for getting into interesting conversations along the way. Really excited!
Hello,
Lying awake last night, feeling wistful, missing the Camino, I was struck by a sudden thought. "If my boss would let me, I could take three (maybe even four) weeks off, in the autumn, and go again."

Hecate, tourist infos have stamps? Really?. I never knew! In what countries did you find this?
(And, yes, will be keeping my eyes peeled for St Roche or unexpected scallop shells along the way.)
Hi All,
Thank you for the suggestion of post-offices. That's a brilliant idea, date and location in one, and one I hadn't thought of.
I'm hoping that, after the first few days, it'll be easier. Because all I'll have to do is point and say, "Like that, please". At least in England, I hope...
The tentative plan is Bury St Edmunds Cathedral to Santiago, autumn 2014. (On foot except for the wet bits - devotion to the trail doesn't extend to sea beds!)
All though England and in Northern France I will, of course, be away from pilgrim routes and - I suspect - most of the time having to...
In Trinidad de Arre I went into a greengrocers. I bought one orange and one tomato to put in the pack, and an apple to eat then. (Fruit is heavy - I really dithered over what to buy.) After I had paid, the greengrocer gave me a bag of strawberries along with a solemn "Buen Camino!"
I walked...
