Depends on if they're for mindless entertainment or actual information.
For information, get a guidebook.
For entertainment read one of the countless overdramatic and embellished accounts of walking the Camino.
One mustn't forget that in all likelihood she's just plain embellishing her Camino experience. Lying. Making things up. That's what writer's do. Makes it impossible to find a swimming hole that never existed in the first place. I highly doubt she actually walked the majority of the Camino. I...
Pet peeves and dislikes on the Camino?
No particular order:
1. Graffiti.....immature, selfish, destructive, illegal and based on the quotes just plain boring. I feel quite sorry for anyone who would get inspired by such banal scribble.
2. Pilgrims who put their packs on beds and on chairs in the...
I almost never use my cellphone when I walk the Camino so probably 75% of the time it's turned off. When it does need charging I just do it whenever. I certainly wouldn't leave it or anything of value like money, wallet, documents etc unattended ever while on the Camino
I stopped and ate at that one, too. :D
I was starving. All I had for breakfast that morning was the usual nutritionally flimsy coffee and toast and later a protein bar are the area of the military reservation up on the hill before you walk down into the city. I got the typical combo meal with...
Very true. The average Camino walk for the average pilgrim would make a dreadfully boring movie to someone with no knowledge of the Camino. Just check out 99.99% of the youtube videos on the Camino. Not very entertaining or even informative at all. Usually scored with some over dramatic music...
"Almost nobody can put on another person's kit, especially footwear, and just walk for a month"
I could right now literally pick up a basic kit of a pack, sleeping bag etc and walk for a month. Sure, I gotta tweak the pack to fit, but I could get it to work. As far as the footwear I've watched...
While I realize that Spain is not known for its great hamburgers and while these days I don't eat hamburgers at home very often and have over the years eaten a lot of burgers, some good, some bad and some great in many places and countries but sometimes while walking the Camino I'm really...
I understand why the movies about the Camino depict the "Camino family" shtick. It's because it's needed in order to have a plot with multiple main characters. Unfortunately some first time pilgrims feel that if they don't do the Camino family thing they're missing out somehow. I've even met...
I first watched the movie more than ten years ago when I ran across the DVD on Amazon I think whilst I was shopping for a Camino Frances guidebook. I had never heard of the movie before then and I think it had been out for a year already. It looked interesting enough and I included it in my...
I would. Get in my face and tell me what you think. That honesty would be nice but would require a fair amount of intestinal fortitude on your part as the response back to you may be blunt and raw, hurtful and I suspect that deters you from doing it. That's what would deter most people from...
One of my favorite albergues on the Frances. I have stayed there twice.
Gotta love the art pieces done by visiting pilgrims that are hanging everywhere.
It's not closed to anyone. How would it be? It's there, many routes, many ways to travel it, many types of accommodations and variety of food and can be done on a tight budget as I have met many pilgrims who were on one when walking. It is indeed there for anyone to walk, but if one is not...
Then if it is that much of a cause of concern for you perhaps do something to change it, if you feel it's due to wrongs. Certainly that would be more effective than just wondering about it and expressing said wonder on an internet forum. I mean anybody can do that. ;)
Different cultures, different countries, different ethnicity have different interests and hobbies. I think that's a difficult thing for a lot of people to grasp and in their minds they feel that there's some sort of nefarious reason why they don't see people from other demographics doing...
No offense to the OP but this a rather silly thread. Also I have observed and met on my Caminos pilgrims of all ethnic backgrounds, demographics, religions, gender, age group, height, weight, job variety etc.
It's quite the mix. You just gotta look.
Caminos aside, overall health, well being and longevity is what motivates me out the door and walking as well as working out and not eating garbage foods anymore. Being able to walk the Camino with minimal difficulty is a bonus. That's why I always comment on here that equipment choices etc...
