    For introvert crowd-averse pilgrims

On my first Camino a few years ago I met a pilgrim in O Cebreiro, a woman around my age, who turned into a bit of a problem as she wanted to be with me all the time. I explained that I wanted to walk alone at my own pace during the day, which she respected but every evening she would turn up and...

    What a week!

Thank you Rachael, I managed to join them briefly on a video call. Just as well I didn´t try to go, it now looks like I have the dreaded virus, although only mildly thank goodness (I´m 74!)

    What a week!

A day to remember in more ways than one. Glad it turned out well. My youngest son is getting married today in a quiet civil ceremony followed by a meal. We are in lockdown so I will be unable to go. Difficult days.

While Waiting to Walk - What are you doing?

I am shielding in my apartment but trying to walk 4000 steps a day. One full circuit is 75 steps...gets a bit boring. My poor dog follows me round wondering what on earth I am doing but at least we get a bit of exercise. Other than that I am reading, potting and have started blogging again...

    Mystery

If you put your bar of soap in one of those little mesh bags that lemons etc come in, and tie it off with string, you can then hang the bag from your 'S' hook. You can use the soap without taking it out of the bag!

    The back of beyond

In Brazil I´ve heard "where St Jude lost his boots" to denote a faraway place!

    Court Ordered Camino

I met a French social worker and young offender on the VDLP a couple of years ago, and our paths crossed so often we became friends and ended up doing most of the Camino together. The social worker had a tough job at times but handled difficult situations very well and the improvement in the...

Have any of you left the Camino and done long walks elsewhere?

I´ve done the French Camino twice, followed by the Via de la Plata. Before that loads of walking in the Lake District (UK) but before my first Camino I did the Inca Trail in Peru...an unforgettable experience. This year I am doing the Camino Ingles (short but sweet due to time constraints). My...

    Trail snacks

My favourite lunchtime food was meio curado cheese and a crisp green apple. For snacking along the way there is nothing better than dark chocolate and a handful of nuts. None of these weighs too much and they are full of energy-giving calories. Sandra

    Tarta de Santiago

I checked out the tarta recipe on the link (thanks Falcon) and amongst the ingredients it lists "sugar flour". I´ve never heard of it, can anyone enlighten me please? Thanks. Sandra

    GPS for Camino area

I took a simple pedometer with me which only weighed a few grams because I also like to know how far I've walked...unfortunately it didn't work properly  Sandra

    How many miles/day?

Before my first Camino I followed a carefully planned 16-week exercise programme (which bored me to tears) which included walking with a full pack and exercises - I had no problems to speak of from Roncesvalles to Santiago. For my second Camino I did no preparation whatsoever and again had no...

    One year on...

I have just realised that I started my first Camino one year ago today, doing the Frances from Roncesvales. What memories it brings back and how much I want to do it all again! I am hoping to do the Portugues or even the Frances again, maybe next year. It is strange how even a year on I think...
