And now to me: where am I from?
Born and raised just south of Manchester and then as a young adult, followed my Dutch Hotelier husband whom I met in Spain to various places: Rome, Aosta, Sardinia, Paris, Damascus, Cairo, Zurich, Lugano and finally to Costa Rica. I haven’t included all the...
Back to Central America: 6 of my grandchildren have been born and educated in Costa Rica. They consider their country part of the 7 countries which make up Central America: Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. The whole continent comprising North, Central...
Are you male or female? Bidets are a God-send for ladies with their period.
You will find a bidet in most Southern European houses (plus I've seen them in offices in Italy). The bathrooms were built to include a bidet! I have lived in Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain, and have always found a...
very seriously, I would go back to your money changer and change back your money. You have been given a lot of advice and opinion and I think you will most definitely hit problems with these notes, plus I guess, you will have in your possession a large amount of Euros, which is just not necessary.
That’s because some kind pilgrim or one of the hospitaleros (wardens they are called at Guacelmo) had the inspiration to bake something delicious 😋. The kitchen facilities at Guacelmo is one of the best!
Guacelmo in Rabanal is still called Refugio Guacelmo, not Albergues Guacelmo.

And we always register and say 'from Costa Rica', although I'm dual nationality Brit and Dutch and Adriaan is Dutch. The reason being is that we try to boost the minority, so to speak! The first year we walked the Camino, just 34 people had registered from Costa Rica.
Anyway, now it's Brexit...
This is just what happened to my Dutch sister in law, when she arrived at Newark. The customs guy saw her apple ( The Dutch love to travel with an apple)! and went to confiscate it, so she actually ate it in front if him🙄🙄 He wasn't pleased! Then He asked her if she had some cookies. "Cookies"...
One year we took a small termos with us, so that in the sad eventuality of there being no bar in the village that would be open very early, we filled our thermos the night before, so as to at least have a coffee before leaving the Albergue 😉☕️
Very good news Dave, to see you back and thank you for being so open and also considerate, by letting everyone who was worried about you, that you are slowly on the mend.
I, for one, did not even think about any political inference that this tread could have taken. My immediate reaction was how we, as Pilgrims walking to Santiago, might have some empathy on the thousands of migrants, leaving all their possessions behind and in their case "walking with bare...
I totally agree that this is a Human Thread. All about humanity, the beautiful, the good, the unfortunate and the bad.
I think that most of us who have walked the Camino, plotting our route, collecting all the "necessary" equipment, often expensive, maybe hardly ever to be used again...
