My life long friend and I will celebrate our 70th in Sept. We were born 2 weeks apart and plan on celebrating both birthdays on the trail. It will be his first Camino, my first was in 2011.
Could be my imagination but I remember getting "noticed" by bartenders by removing my hat as I enter. Sometimes, maybe by inadvertently not following the local protocols, I've been made to feel invisible.
I am once again (2011) starting from St Jean Pied de Port. This time with an old friend that wants to experience the Camino. I have booked ahead the first 3 nights as I don't understand the reality on the ground, but have heard, and read, that there is a bed chase. Bizarre concept / reality to...
Nice post Alex. I will be 70 in Sept and, like you, have been walking Caminos for some time now. It's the only place I know where time slows down. I am currently nursing a hernia and in the process of a repair, and hope to be recovered for a spring 2024 Camino, somewhere. This is why we walk...
Great question and great answers, they all resonate. So many layers but for me it was the people, the deep friendships and camaraderie. And an old tune by Bob Dylan ... "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now".
I have walked into Santiago 4 times now, from different routes. SdC feels like an old friend and I am always happy to arrive. Physically tired and worn out as I am not the strongest person and do need my rest.
For me, on the day of arrival, there are usually many different emotions, some quite...
Hey Don, I am sorry to hear about your health issues, I hope you can beat the hell out of whatever is going on. I am 67 and the end of my Camino days are on the horizon, hoping to get in another one this year, one year at a time. I'm not sure how I will feel when the time comes to hang up the...
I retired in 2010 and walked my CF in 2011. I didn't know about the Camino but research told me about the infrastructure, I didn't need to carry a tent ... right on, I'll try that hike. So I left my comfortable home and family in Nova Scotia and went for a challenging multi-day walk in the...
Storyteller Matt:
Your opening post resonates, here is a few thoughts I'd like to share with you.
Ten years have passed since my first Camino, the Frances. That experience has, unexpectedly to me, weaved it's way into my daily life. I sit alone in my post Camino life, I have Camino friends and...
Okay, I never thought that my opening post would bring so many of you to comment, but here you are, obviously as crazy as I am, good on ya, glad I found ya, what a team!!!
So, I feel obliged to say something, so here's this. I've been at this for awhile and have "travel walked" many countries...
A few years back a friend and I were walking the West Highland Way and got rained out, I mean rained out. So, we moved to the Hadrian's Wall trail, loved it. And yes, it keeps you fit, including the daily training walk at home (more obsession) haha. Buen Camino
