How many pilgrims do not ask for a Compostela after their Camino?

I only have 4 Compostela for the 11 or so Caminos I walked. Reason is that all the other Caminos joined Caminos that I had already walked and that is where I stopped. E.g.Camino Mozarabe at Merida, Camino Madrid at Sahagun.

    GaiaGPS - layers?

Layers like in route overlay? I used MapsMe in the past caminos but any app that can import KML or GPX layers should do fine. Like Organic Maps, Maps.me, Google maps, Mapy.cz, OSMand, Oruxmap, Viewranger and Komoot. I personally used MapsMe in my past Caminos. To get the layers for the Caminos...

    Try this drink in Valencia

It's a milky drink from a nut. Coming from Asia, it taste like a cross between soy and almond drink. 😆

    Try this drink in Valencia

Horchata. One can get it at all supermarkets in Spain. Since the nuts came from that region it is more common in the bars and probably homemade as well... 👍

Which is the flattest major Camino de Santiago route?

Two Caminos came into my mind. Via de la Plata and Camino Madrid. Caveats: 1. Via de la Plata (Some hills in the second or third day), but from Merida to Sanabria nice and flat. After that the crossover to Galacia is hilly. 2. Camino Madrid. Start after the mountains north of Madrid at...

    Do you care about continuity?

My case is more like after the first few main Caminos, the subsequent ones never made it to SDC. Example, Camino del Madrid from Madrid to Sahagun. Camino del Interior from Irun to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, etc...

Why do YOU go on pilgrimage?

As someone who has come of age in the 80s, I heard many times people saying 'to go to Nepal (mountains) to find yourself'. After years of working life, this statement was never far from my thoughts. So when I discovered the Camino (first as a tourist in SDC) I thought I found my mountains. The...

    Medieval Travel and Pilgrimage

I watch this YouTube channel mainly for their history clips. Their latest one surprised me, it's on Medieval Travel and Pilgrimage. I guess the two are pretty the same thing back then. Compare with Rome and Jerusalem, I think Santiago de Compostela is slightly less risky, just slightly... 🧐

How Do You End Your Camino

This may sound trival but me it started from my very first camino... After arriving in Santiago, got a hostal to stay, freshening up in the bathroom and saw myself in the mirror and realized that I am no longer a pilgrim but a tourist. Somehow this causes a switch in the my thinking and since...

    Barefoot training

Unless you plan not to wear shoes on the Camino. Wear on your foot what you would when you walk the Camino. Toughen feet in the open doesn't mean the same when enclosed in footwear...

    Managing a Camino budget

I deal mostly with cash since the Caminos I walked are essentially in Spain, Portugal and Germany (yes, they are also very cash centric). That makes it easier to get a feel of the spending in one place than when the expenditure is from multiple source For the cash I used to rely on ATMs in the...

Which camino fits to my criteria?

You are in Spain, quite devoid of forest. I would think of Camino Primitivo would be your best bet, along the ridges of the mountains. Not forest but lots of trees. Stages are not long, should be quite but enough people. If you really love forests than maybe asking too much but Germany would...

If you were to choose your Camino based on the food?

But these are regional specialities and you don't get them all the time even when you are in the region. I am more for consistently good food, good dessert and good coffee. The only Camino that I walked that has it is not even on the map. It's Camino Portuguese. These people really know how to...

Can someone with tech skills _please_ help??

Basically, it works others but not for your Galaxy Tab. You can try one more thing. 1. Delete the Maps.me app from your Galaxy Tab. 2. If you have a file manager, look into main storage. There should be directory still there with the name 'MapsWithMe'. Remove the whole directory too. This...

    Don Quixote and the Camino

Walked the Camino Levante (Valencia to Zamora). The first half (or rather the 2nd quarter) of the camino is Don Quixote's landscape. Rows of old windmills (forgot the town's name), caricatures of the 2 characters dawn many of the landscape. Even the town Toboso (where Dulcinea came from) was on...

    GPS meltdown

Well Laurie, Wikilocs already have their app for both iPhone and Android so you can search and download directly from the phone app. Your conversion to tech in 2020 will be a breeze. :D:D;)

    GPS meltdown

Laurie, Interesting topic.. for a techie like me. :) My first and last dedicated gps device was a Garmin eTrex in 2004. Never had big enough tracks to hit any limits, not that I did find any. Based on your notes on Camino Mozarabe, I decided to open the file for my Camino Mozarabe kml file...

Can Gronze be downloaded to iBooks?

Tackle this backwards. 1. iBooks reads epub documents. Once you have this epub document you can email it to yourself with the attachment. On the iPhone open the attachment to iBooks. 2. Many ways to create an epub document. The easiest way is to create the document first in Microsoft Word...

Best blog platform on my phone?

I use blogger and you can request an email address you can send to post the blog for you. I have been doing that for all my caminos since blogged daily on the road. Easy and you don't need to install any app, just the email client. 1. To: field is the email to post to Blogger 2. Subject: field...
