    RIP @annakappa

We were fortunate enough to be able to spend some time with Anna and Fraluchi. Rest in peace amigos.

    Scam - again..

Frankly....I am just avoiding using Booking at this point. I am certain that Booking itself is not the doer (bad guy)..but the bad guys are using something within the Booking data or system to obtain information to use for phishing. I just will refrain until this goes away.

    Scam - again..

Both of these threads involve Booking. If I understand right they (scammers) have knowledge of a booking that has been made. The information of the reservation indicates that the scam is getting info from Booking data base or insiders at some level at Booking. Has anyone who has received a...

Who has been on the Camino for more than 12 months? How was it?

    …nor luggage transfer 😳

Camino Wildlife (excluding escaped circus animals)

Full grown Moose, both bull and cows, were common in neighborhoods when I lived in Eagle River, Alaska about 20 years ago. Huge animals with no fear of humans. The rack on the Bulls were amazing. There were both black bears and grizzlies often seen in my neighhood and area....but I did not...

Camino Wildlife (excluding escaped circus animals)

I have seen a number of deer but no other animals in Spain. Also the rare snake, thousands of lizards, slugs, storks, birds. Really surprised at how few encounters I have had walking in Spain, Portugal, France or Italy. In Arizona (where I live) it is very common to see Road Runners...

Who has been on the Camino for more than 12 months? How was it?

@domigee...I am impressed by the walk to Jerusalem. However, not enough to try it.

Who has been on the Camino for more than 12 months? How was it?

Many (most) of us here would not be able to be there for more than 90 days in a 180 day period. Then again....which camino are you referring to? There are many routes in Spain and France (and other European countries) that link and end up in Santiago. Plus...the long route from Canterbury to...

    Carry your backpack please.

Perhaps after you have actually experienced a camino you may understand where @good_old_shoes was coming from. Buen Camino..(BTW....I am 85 years old. Many here are in their 80's and still walk and carry their packs if physically able)

    Carry your backpack please.

No problem at all...for those who see the camino as a simple "nice easy walk". That is a very noticable change in attitude and perception that has crept in over the past years with the popularity of the camino. Others see the Camino as both a challenge on many levels and not a simple walk and...

    Locals Only

I really have not encountered it...but...then again, my Spanish is basic enough that I just do not recognize that I am being disrespected. Actually, that is the easiest way to go. Can't be sad or angry if you never know that you have been blown off.

Legal Changes Coming for Spanish Accommodations

The use of any type of payment except cash is relatively new ( in my experience) as are many other changes. Using a credit card in an albergue (and many/most pensions)was simply not possible. The creep toward “civilizing” the Camino experience and pushing it into an ever more comfortable...

    Celebrating my old age

I walked my first Camino in 2009…at age 70. I did not consider age as a factor and it actually really was not an issue and doesn’t seem to be much of a barrier as I continue to walk on a regular basis.

    Bed bugs in El Acebo!

If you have any worries about a bedbug infestation where you are staying ..... I usually carry a black garbage bag in my pack and put my pack and everything in it before setting it on the floor in any albergue or suspect pension. The odds of a booger getting inside and traveling with you are...

    Unusual animal companions

I walked with a pilgrim named Monique once....but no book.

    Unusual animal companions

I have also seen a pilgrim with a cat...sometimes it was walking and often carried in a front carrier pack. Did not see her in an albergue so no sure how that was handled.

    Santiago Matamoros stamp on Compostela?

Very interesting.. It is interesting to discover the changes over the years. I just noticed that an early one of mine from 2009 does not have a siglnature block for a Cathedral official.

    Musical instruments on the Camino.

Always keeping in mind that others may not appreciate the music...especially if they are seeking solitude and peace. There will be a time and place, but consideration of others is important.

How do you count your caminos?

I think someone is missing another commercial opportunity. The Super Hero cape with camino badges is a sure winner.

Oregonian article about octogenarian pilgrim and his son

Pilgrims walking in their 80's is really not that unusual. We have many here in the forum.
