The Way, My Way - the movie

Can't wait to see it in the USA. I generally avoid the "big screen" but I am definitely making an exception for this. B

Spanish Induction Stove Tops...Alien Tech? or How to operate controls?

I feel your pain... I am considered to be a fairly reliable person to "manage tech"....for decades. Capable of programming a DVR or VHS unit without assistance from a 12-year-old, I am. But those induction units? Even with the dubious assistance of a beer or two, they are always a struggle...

That recipe - which one is yours?

Kirkie, Our weather, east of the Cascades, is colder than a politician's heart. -18 C as I type. (I got up early to feed the woodstove. 😬) BTW, "my people" come from "beyond the Pale" so I can use it. Even so, I think even they would never approve of the barbarism implicit in making a...

That recipe - which one is yours?

Tortilla without onion!!!??? I used to like you, young lady, but this is beyond the pale! ;)

That recipe - which one is yours?

In order of frequency during any year: - Blistered Padron peppers (though I have to use Shishito) - Lentejas - Caldo Gallego - Chorizo al Vino (though often just Embutidos al Vino, Debrecziner is a good stand-in) - Tortilla As required, I will also make a Shrimp Salad or "Tuna Melt" variant...

What do you normally do - Carry backpack or use transport service?

Having seen a lot of threads about transport service, I admit to being surprised by poll results. Thanks for doing it @C clearly!

Just wondering, did anyone ever walk for a deceased pet/animal?

Thus my only complaint with Thomas Aquinas, as the above being a legacy (imho) of his assertion that dogs have no souls. He did not have, I think, real exposure to canines of quality. The only problem that dogs present is that their lives are too short for us, their fur-less buddies. B

Key Lesson of the Camino (IMO) in a simple quote...

Nah, there was another thread...maybe 8-10 years ago? This will do though. Thank you @C clearly ! B

Key Lesson of the Camino (IMO) in a simple quote...

I thought I remembered a thread of "Inspirational Quotes" but I could not find it. :( Anyway, this came across my view today while I was missing the Camino....badly. Enjoy! "Slowly the west reaches for clothes of new colors which it passes to a row of ancient trees. You look, and soon these...

Can you Jack Reacher the Camino??

I recall a 50-ish gentleman from Poland in the Fall of 2012. His only gear was carried in a common grocery bag....and it was not full. I crossed paths with him from Pamplona to SdC. Because of the language barrier, I never learned his secret. B

I am "gifting" the Camino for Christmas. Need advice!

"No" to the shoes. A shell, bronze waymarker, or stylish map from Ivar's shop instead. Shoes require personal choice, fitting, test-walking. Yes, trying to set up a group is not just "bananas", it is a complete produce section. Complexity increases as a power function of the number of...

Calling all spreadsheet nerds, I need planning inspiration!

It is perhaps my peculiarity of having had so much time spent on spreadsheets professionally that I did NOT want them interfering with a Camino that I am of one mind with @mspath ... Just go...and be prepared for adverse conditions. The weather will be cold, and often wet. The albergues will...

Key Lesson of the Camino (IMO) in a simple quote...

....found while I was doing other things but I thought a quick "drive-by" to the Forum to share might be appropriate. “I cling like a miser to the freedom that disappears as soon as there is an excess of things.” (Albert Camus, Lyrical and Critical Essays) I honestly remember not liking...

    Credit Card Nightmare

Just checking in while icing my back after moving firewood for the day. This thread caught my eye, and I might have something to contribute. I retired a couple of years ago from 15 years of managing cash flow, international cash transactions, international tax, hedging of currency risk etc. I...

Interesting parallel noted between Camino after-effects and...

I just finished a book loaned to me by a neighbor who wanted a critical review from a "scientific type". Entitled "How to Change Your Mind" by Michael Pollan, it is a lengthy (but well-written) journey into the evolving science of hallucinogens such as psilocybin and LSD. Though not interested...

    Frango - Portuguese BBQ'd Chicken

More for Those experienced with the Portuguese, I think.... but really tasty for anyone. Well, I have been trying to recreate this marvel since March of 2016 as a few mis-steps in Cebreiro days before SdC delivered me to a bus trip down to Porto rather than a walk onto the coast and I had few...

    Exchange Rate Euro to Dollar

I am so old that my only means of transacting when outside of the USA was with Traveler's Checks. My experiences over the years have informed me that being in a nation with a declining exchange rate against the USD was NOT necessarily a good thing. Friends in the EU substantiate this opinion...

How fast do you walk on the Camino?

@peterhore - My answer? "It depends!" I just digested this from a walk in Spring 2014. It was a walk with a physically impaired companion. Because of time of year, we walked the Valcarlos. That said, when I walked alone (@58 & 63 y/o - reasonable healthy but not an athlete!), my stages and...

    Frozen churros?

The dearest and I rarely eat "out" simply because a goodly number of menu offerings in the low-to-mid-tier restos are from pre-portioned flash frozen bags or boxes. It is less money and more tasty to make our own meals....even if it just a pizza or stir-fry. Churros would be dead easy to mass...

    Albergue For Sale

Thank you @Tincatinker ! My heart dropped to my socks upon reading the original post. They are such a lovely young couple and put so much sweat and artistic sensitivity into building 'la Piedra'. It was a high point of my Camino in Fall 2017. I am very pleased that they have not been routed...
