I think @Kathar1na is right in saying that Holy Years have relatively little effect on the numbers walking from Navarra. The surge in numbers during Holy Years tends to be closer to Santiago with people walking shorter routes. The growth overall on the Caminos has been fairly continuous since...
Light snow apparently. I saw this post on Facebook earlier this afternoon.

Are you starting your walk from Pamplona or heading for SJPDP or Roncesvalles? The Roncesvalles albergue and the SJPDP pilgrim office have both posted warnings about cold weather and snow on high ground today and tomorrow. Recommending that people walk the Valcarlos route.
An article on a Leon website this morning. An interview with David Vidal - the creator of La Casa de los Dioses. David is back there for a few days as part of a longer journey.

Here in the UK we often read stories of people contacting the emergency services via the 999 phone service for very trivial reasons. I sometimes wonder about some of the callouts that the Burguete bomberos respond to on the Route Napoleon. Whether the people calling for help are genuinely...
I am having trouble understanding your motivation for walking the Caminos in particular if you feel that (a) any long walk can be a source of spiritual gain (a position which I totally accept and agree with) and (b) you feel a very strong wish for solitude. On the main Camino routes real...
My French and Spanish are minimal but I think the core meaning is fairly clear. For those who have even less linguistic ability than me then Google Translate and a phone camera should make it even clearer. Something I have done a number of times with totally incomprehensible (to me) signs and...
An article today on a local news website noting that the municipal albergue in Najera is likely to remain closed until the end of the month while renovation work is done. Particularly on showers and the kitchen. A temporary albergue with floor mats for about 20 people has been set up in the...
The Burguete bomberos had another busy day yesterday. Picking up two pilgrims with symptoms of hypothermia and exhaustion near the Lepoeder pass and another near the Croix de Thibault who was taken to the Burguete medical centre...
La Voz de Galicia has reported the death of a 65 year old pilgrim from the United States this afternoon near Castromaior. The likely cause appears to be a heart attack. The pilgrim was walking the Camino with his wife...
Indeed. The closure order is very specific. One particular route. If anyone wants to walk to Roncesvalles in winter on a high-level route they can walk any other path they choose. Over the tops of mountains if they wish. Though that may be unwise. Walking the only route which is very...
Pretty sure it would have been all over the local Navarra news websites and the Facebook and Twitter accounts for the SJPDP pilgrim office, the Roncesvalles albergue, the Navarra police local and/or the Guardia Civil. No mention of it anywhere.
Valcarlos shows up as a stop on the ALSA bus route though buying a ticket to Valcarlos is not an option on their website. Perhaps that one can be settled fairly quickly.
Just saw an article reporting on a visit to Valcarlos promoting the town and the route through it as a primary Camino route - not simply a winter alternative to the Route Napoleon. Some mention of actions being taken to make the route a more attractive option. Including negotiating an agreement...
That's exactly my thinking too. It is a complete journey for me if I walk from my starting point to Santiago or another pilgrimage destination. Doesn't matter if that is 10km, 100km or 1000km. And it certainly doesn't have to be from some completely arbitrary starting point like SJPDP...
Personally I wouldn't worry too much about cloud and some rain - unless the forecast is for torrential rain. The route is easy to follow. I would be more concerned about snow or high winds. I would definitely take the advice of the pilgrim office on the day. A few minutes ago I posted this...
Just saw a post on Facebook from someone who walked the Route Napoleon yesterday. With a set of photos which start in a snow-free SJPDP, pass by a snow-free Orisson, end at a snow-free Roncesvalles, but show how different conditions can be just a little higher up on the pass itself. The reason...
