    Busy April

I began my Camino in the second week of April having previously walked in May and September. I was expecting the route to be quieter however there are a lot of pilgrims at the moment. I'm now in Ponferrada with about 8 days to Santiago. Albergues in the main stage ends are busy. The...

    Excited newbies

Hi Julia, As I see it you have a number of options but firstly to mention that SJPP and Pamplona are on the Camino Frances and Bilbao is on the Camino del Norte which has a different starting point. That's not to say you couldn't do some of the Frances and then bus it to Bilbao for your...

    pamplona to biarritz airport

Sounds as if that could be a very expensive journey. Just a suggestion as regards an alternative to see if it would cost less..... Ryanair from Madrid to Dublin on 19th Sept at 20.40 is €44. There are several buses with Alsa running from Pamplona to Madrid Airport - terminal 4 on that day...

    Irish Passport Card

I've had mine for almost a year now and haven't had any problems entering Spain with it. The only time there was a question asked was at the Albergue in Pamplona at check in. They had not seen one before and we're looking for the normal passport after a short discussion were happy with it.

    2016. Holy Year. Busy Camino??

I read recently that the pope announced 2016 as a holy year. I understand that during a holy year the number of pilgrims increase dramatically due to religious reasons. If I plan a 2016 Camino, will accomodation be a problem? Are there any particular months to avoid? Any other information...

    Advice for day 1

Good morning forum members, I arrive in SJPP later this week around mid-day. I don't have any long flights or jet- lag to get over. I was thinking of starting to walk on arrival and that would mean getting into Ronscesvalles at approx 8.00 in the evening. Is this possible? Would there still...

Top Ten Musicians I want to listen to on the Camino Frances...

I'm with you on U2, I first saw them live as an up and coming band in 1981 when they played to an audience of 200 at a run-down venue in the south of Ireland. At the beginning of the Meseta last year I couldn't resist listening to the Doors 'riders on the storm'. as it was such a wild day...

Hi all, I'm due to begin my Camino from SJPP in two weeks. Just wondering if the numbers starting have now reduced and if there is less pressure on finding space in the albergues? Regards, Gerard.

    Training advice.

Thank you all for your replies. Since posting my question three weeks ago and taken all your advice into consideration I've reduced my training to shorter but more frequent walks and in the past 2 weeks carrying a full rucksack as well. Feeling far more prepared and confident now. Thanks...

    Training advice.

Thank you all for the good advice. Taking your views into consideration and listening to my own body, I think I will reduce the distances for the next few weeks. I do take breaks but most of my training is done solo but I'm confident that good conversation with friends I've yet to meet along...
