RIP Maria Nieves Panizo Benevente - Rabanal del Camino

Rabanal del Camino is one of my favourite stops on the Camino Frances, and I have always stayed at El Refugio. My condolences to the Benevente family. 🚶‍♂️

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino Frances

On my first Camino I got sick, really sick, one week in at Los Arcos. I had to pull out and head to London to rest and recuperate. So glad I then went back and finished the CF from Logrono. It was the beginning of what I am sure will be a life long love affair with El Camino. Be kind to yourself...

Advice on "parts to miss" so I can Experience Arrival into Santiago

My suggestion would be to do SJPdP to Roncesvalles if your heart is set on crossing the Pyrenees, then take transport to a town along the Way from which you can easily make it to SdC in your remaining timeframe. Yes, you will miss some of the CF, but you will have continuity of walking for most...

    3 Days Achieved

In such conditions I find my Leki hiking sticks (no rubber tips) make the walk so much safer. Yes, I have occasionally slipped and landed on my backside but so far no damage done. Buen Camino. 🚶‍♂️

    Ashes on the Frances

In 2016, on my second Camino, I carried a small container of my parents' co-mingled ashes (they died 2 years apart). I left some at the base of the cross at Cruz de Ferro, some on the cross behind the lighthouse at Finisterre, and the remainder went into the ocean at Finisterre. I think they...

    Last 100km places with pools?

Pazo de Sedor near Arzua has a lovely pool. Buen Camino. 🚶‍♂️

Brisbane peregrine/as - where did you hill train

Ha ha, I doubt it Glenda. I'm actually an Mc but JMac was my work nickname so it has stuck. Might interest you to know that I was 58 years old, overweight and unfit when I walked my first Camino. I guess persistence paid off and The Camino has become my passion. Feel free to message me if you...

Brisbane peregrine/as - where did you hill train

I just walked my local area, West End and Highgate Hill, doing around 9km per day. Once I did the first day from St Jean to Roncesvalles via Route du Napoleon I figured I could tackle anything else that came on the CF. Buen Camino. 🚶‍♂️

2 weeks of walking - which part would you recommend?

Leon to Compostela is a lovely 2 week section of the CF. Arriving in SdC is a great experience. Whatever you choose, Buen Camino. 🚶‍♂️

What is between Sarria and Santiago? And Muxia?

Casa Rural Pazo de Sador, just off Camino prior to Arzua, is a lovely place to spend a night (not cheap mind you) before getting to SdC. Buen Camino. 🚶‍♂️

LIVE from the Camino Aunt and niece, version 4.

Love that word, Ferretería. I always have a chuckle when I see it. I told my kids it's where you buy ferrets for hunting in Spain. (We used to have elderly Spanish neighbours in Sydney who kept ferrets as pets.) 😁🚶‍♂️

I haven't walked via Samos yet either. Maybe next time. 🙏🚶‍♂️

    Avoiding Cruz de Ferro

Hi kiwicat, I would be interested in seeing the evidence for your assertion re achilles problems in older walkers. I am an "older walker" who tried Merrells and Salomons on my first two Caminos before discovering Altra Lone Peaks and wearing them with great success on all subsequent Caminos. As...

    Eucharistic adoration along Camino Frances

I realize it is not on your Way, however should you be in Madrid at any stage of your travels then the Almudena Cathedral is well worth a visit. The Blessed Sacrament Chapel is simply exquisite. Buen Camino.

    Religious/Spiritual ceremonies along Leon-SdC

Hi Katie, As is often mentioned on this forum with regard to cooler weather, layering is the key. I suggest you also carry some lightweight gloves. They come in handy early morning, and when walking in freezing rain. Your parents might also find it beneficial to try wearing compression tights...

    Religious/Spiritual ceremonies along Leon-SdC

You have chosen a wonderful section of the Camino Frances and will hopefully see all the beauty of Spring in this area. Of course a visit to Rabanal del Camino is a must, however I very much enjoy attending Mass, or other Services, wherever possible. Might I suggest that your parents not worry...

    April/May Camino Footwear

Hi Mack, The brand I use is called Injinji. They seem to be available at running stores and specialized hiking / trail running stores. Buen Camino.

    April/May Camino Footwear

Hola Elisha, April/May is a great time to walk Camino, and I believe you will be fine in trail runners, whatever the weather. If you haven't already done so, might I suggest that you replace the original insoles - I use Scholl Gel insoles. They provide much better cushioning and seem to...

The Best Song To represent The Camino

"King of the Road" always gets a run when I am walking Camino. :)
