7 day Camino - Sarria to Santiago 110KM

Skip the Camino walking part. Barcelona, Madrid, Santiago, and other places to visit, would be a better use of your time. What makes the Camino so rewarding is becoming part of the experience. Otherwise it's just a walk in the countryside. Unfortunately from Sarria to Santiago it's not much...

    Descent into Roncesvalles

I would caution going to the left. There are a few slightly steep sections that are not that steep but always shaded so they stay damp and very slippery. It looks like you're standing on a smooth sandy surface but really it is rock hard with a thin layer of mud. In addition since it is...

Where in Camino Frances (800km) Route Do I need to Spend more Time exploring the Cities/Towns?

I would plan on arriving to major cities early. Possibly using them for a rest day. But focus on arriving in Santiago with days left over. Then bus tour to Finisterre. I had extra days. Bus to Salamanca. Next to Toledo. Next to Segovia. Finally days in Madrid.

Bed Race → Astorga to SdC early April

B I'm a proud winner of the daily bed race. Started my mornings at the break of dawn because most everyone else was already up and gone. Had my first coffee with leche at first open bar. Had my second breakfast an hour or so later. Light lunch around noon. Planned on calling it a day around...

Courier service for transport of medication from SJPDP

How long can you delay an injection? Ask your doctor. Notice it is a monthly dose not a dose specified by days. A monthly dose, may imply that some flexibility is allowed. Example my Camino was 35 days walking and 5 for to and from transportation and sightseeing. Would a one time 40 day...

    Mid Sept?

There is no ideal time. Don't find excuses to not go.

    Hiking with a tent

A son who doesn't like a bunk bed? He's not ready or possibly you're not?

We made our first reservation for our Camino

Orission is a good choice. It's overrated and a bit over priced. But SJPDP to Roncesvalles in one day is a long day and if weather is not cooperating, miserable.

    Luggage transfer between key cities

I use a backpack with Camino gear and a suitcase with vacation attire. The suitcase gets shipped to Santiago. Pilgrim until I reach Santiago. Tourist for the remaining days.

    Must see or favorite sites

First walk your Camino as a pilgrim. Then take buses and trains as a tourist. That way you're not limited to sights in proximity to the Camino.

    Final 40km?

Medical question. I'm assuming you're leaving for home immediately after surgery. Wouldn't it had been better to stabilize the injury and have surgery performed at home where follow up is convenient?

    Descents into Hornillos and Hontanas?

Smooth and gradual. But it is long and easy so one can walk in a rhythm that is very repetitive. You can see your goal from a distance so one can tend to push it a little. I ended up very sore on one foot arriving into Horrnios for the reasons above. It was significant enough that I had to...

Coming to the Camino Frances, a flood of tour groups

These tour groups do impact bed availability. I arrived at a midsized town/village around 1PM. There are three albergues, two private and one municipal. At 1 PM the tour group had the two privates totally booked with advanced reservations. As result the municipal ran out of beds by 1:15. I was...

    Crowd Stuff

SJPDP to Santiago, twice for me. Sep/Oct, and May/June. Walking is not crowded but accommodations can be an issue. Availability from SJPDP and then the next two days can be an issue. It takes a day or two for the wave to dissipate. If you find yourself in an area where tour busses are staging...

Returning to CF after 6 years, anything new I must take into account?

More and more pilgrims are using electronic devices. and tour services all along the Camino. Tour services have an impact on bed availability. The will reserve an entire albergue or two. So instead of lodging being spread out it becomes concentrated. Good luck if you plan on staying in a small...

Rocky terrain from Cruz de Ferro to?

Yes it's brutal. Recently completed a second Camino and I skipped this section. The steel cross, on a telephone, stuck on a pile of rocks didn't do anything for me. Others were emotional but seem to forced for me.

    Top 2 rest days places

Instead of rest days, very short walk days.

Seeking full stage itinerary from SJPP to Finisterre

    Follow the yellow arrows, easy.

Sleeping bag or liner in May?

    Best response ever! Thanks.
