Slower [easier?!] route from Astorga to Sarria?

Good idea to walk short stages and savor the walk! If you take one taxi, I would make it Acebo to Molinaseca. Plenty of people walk it, but it’s sheer rock instead of dirt, and at least as challenging as SJPP to Roncesvalles in my experiences from 2021 and June 2023. I’m in my early 50’s, if...

Did you take many photos and videos?

I see now that it was actually a Sony Cybershot 16.2 megapixels, 8x zoom :)

Did you take many photos and videos?

I took a small Canon, point-and-shoot camera with me on the camino in 2021, and it worked great. It was small enough to tuck into my bum bag. It’s batteries last for many months and don’t need charging. I found it lighter than my phone, and I also didn’t have to worry about memory storage. The...

Sleeping bag or liner in May?

To clarify, I'll use both my liner and blanket, putting the blanket inside the liner. :-) David Tallans liner-quilt combo sounds really good!

Sleeping bag or liner in May?

Thanks for this. I’ll be walking is May-June too. Very sensible. I walked from Astorga in July with just a liner, but I wouldn’t do that again since I had to wear all my clothes more than once. Was fine, but not necessary. :-)

What AI ChatGPT knows about the Camino Frances

It seems to compile and synthesize info from various websites. Pretty impressive, though I'm glad that experienced humans can give better info -- for now, lol!

Recommended Accommodations for a 2-night Stay in León

Does anyone have a good experience with a particular hotel/pension/casa in León? I'm planning to stay two nights in León, and I recall that albergues are typically one-nighters. I'd like to leave my pack behind to sightsee during that second day anyway. Closer to old town would be a plus. I hear...

Biarritz to St Jean - Beginning day after 1pm to Roncevalles?

Thanks for mentioning that stopping in Orisson was so worth it! I've reserved a bunk at the new Auberge Borda for May 2023!

Planning to walk from Astorga solo, advice please!

I did Astorga to Santiago in July 2021! It was my first Camino, and it took me 12 days of pure walking. I took a train from Madrid to Astorga. The train stopped in Leon, and I took a second train to Astorga. Fairly easy, but took time - a whole day because you need a couple of hours to get...

LIVE from the Camino Live from the Camino!

I am in Peduoso and walking into SdC tomorrow (God willing). I started in Astorga on July 3. What a beautiful experience it has been! Notes: 1) Most albergues and bars open, especially in Galicia. But do carry some nuts, fruit, energy bar to be a meal just in case of unexpected bar closure. 2)...
