When I walked it in March this year I wanted to take a picture of the teeth shaped rocks but honestly, the footing was too tenuous to put my poles down, get out the camera, pick the poles up again and maintain my balance. That’s how bad it was!
Again, did anyone else hear about a death sometime...
I agree completely with @ELHS220. I walked to Zubiri in March 2022, and found it really treacherous. I don’t remember it being like that in 2015. I made it down, slowly, without mishap but I really had to pick my way over the teeth, very thankful that I had poles and that the rock was dry. To my...
In reality it could very well be closed today, as they were expecting a good amount of snow in the Pyrenees overnight. I’m in Grañon today, and it snowed most of the way here from Azofra. No joke! Here’s a photo taken from inside the cafeteria at Cirueña.

Here is the second mass grave, with the explanation, and a view of the explanation of the mass grave beside the monument. That one is too small to read though.

My hope and plan is to walk the Camino Frances to Ponferrada, then the Invierno to Santiago, starting at Roncesvalles on the first day of spring, 2022.
In 2015 I walked from SJPP to Santiago in 33 days, with no rest days. At that time I was 66 years old. In 2018 I walked the Camino Frances a second time, starting in Pamplona, cutting out the first three days. I walked for 33 days then too, and I took a few rest half days so that I could visit...
Sorry, but I think you’re all missing the point. The interview with Brierley wasn’t about his guidebook!
Thank you to John Finn for posting it. There is much in the article that resonates with my post-Camino experience over the past year. Regardless of whether one likes Brierley’s guidebook...
I really enjoyed albergue El Serbal y la Luna, in Pieros, just past Cacabelos, with vegetarian communal meal, as well as the monastery at Samos with great restaurant right across the street, and San Xulian, mentioned above.
Following John Brierley’s advice, I have twice bused in and out of Leon. However I have since realized the error of my ways, because it is the only part of the entire route from Geneva to Santiago that I have not walked, and that seems wrong! Always Camino dreaming, next time I’m planning to...
I’m starting from Pamplona April 10, not my first Camiño, but my first solo. Planning on reaching Santiago May 12. Trying to get the flights set up now. Can anyone tell me whether collapsible poles are allowed in carry-on luggage? I would much rather not check anything.
Hi Anne,
My partner and I are also of mature years. We walked from SJPDP to Santiago in 33 days but another year had gone by so we decided to take longer to walk the French route - 34 days from Le Puy to SJPDP. As Kanga says, the first week crossing the Massif Central was the most challenging...
I can relate to your feelings Rossco. Walked from SJPDP to Finisterre in 2015 with many blisters and much pain. At the time I couldn't imagine why anyone would want to do it again. But as soon as I got home to Canada I wanted the Camino experience again. So in 2016 I walked from Le Puy en Velay...
