I always tried to get into the churches I was passing, and most times failed. There were a few that were open with a lay person watching over the place. Navarette was one I found that was open every time I visited.
If I understand your questio, you are looking to take the taxi FROM Cruz de Ferro.
I have edited my previous comment in deference to those with a better memory of the route. My last walk on that stage was 18 years ago.
Very impressive. My favorite version of a church being relocated is the Ancient Spanish Monastery in North Miami. The church complete with a cloister was bought by William Randolph Hearst an disassembled, the blocks numbered, and packing into crates with straw for cushioning. On arrival at the...
I took a look at the trip description and they only have 7 days of walking. Maybe those folks who occasional post asking what stages to skip can use this as a guide. If you look at the map below, the tiny Green dots are their stages. Their days will go from 5 to 13 mile.
Darn, wish I had that...
i know that feeling. Had problems last year with some of my cards, but this year my Capital One card is going right through. It was great being able to renew the Tarjeta online so I could book tickets in advance and get a substantial discount.
I have walked a couple of times by moonlight and it can be very nice. make Certain that you choose a stage where it doesn’t require a lot of turns. Both times I had spent the night at an albergue before. The first time, I was awoken by others setting out. The second time I slipped out without...
As long as your clothes are clean, you shouldn’t have a problem. I have eaten at a number of Michelin starred restaurants in my travels and have never been wearing anything better than a pair of Levi’s. I usually travel with at least one shirt with a collar, but never carry anything dressy.
I...
Yes, it is doable, but others have raised some good points about delaying your start or making it a shorter day.
I just checked my old emails and in 2005 I set out from St. Jean at 11:45 am and arrived in Ronesvalles just before 6pm. I had just completed walking from Oloron St. Marie to Puente...
I just checked and sadly don’t have a photo of this albergue.
In 2000 on my first Camino I stayed there for 3 nights when I was suffering with tendonitis. When I arrived, they walked me across to the military hospital where I was seen several times for free because of my pilgrim status. The odd...
I highly recommend a visit to the monastery as I was fortunate to be a guest of the monks at Santa Domingo de Silos for three days back in 2000 when I had to stop walking because of tendentious. I showed up unannounced and they gave me a cell at their campground and I was able to hobble over to...
I remember the first time I heard this rule may have been 2005. My response was if they want two stamps a day, why limit it to Sarria onwards. so I ended up filling 4 credentials by the time I reached Santiago.
I stopped into a bookstore in Madrid today and looked at the Camino guides. Guides for the Camino de Santiago seem to show options of starting in Somport as the first choice, and Roncesvalles as the second choice. There was a guide to the Camino Frances which started in SJPP.
I can blame...
If the municipal or parochial does not accept delivery of backpacks and luggage that are sent ahead, you might want to think about looking for other accommodation or the possibility of carrying a pack.
The Federación Española de Asociaciones de Amigos del Camino de Santiago set out a number of...
I neglected to mention it above, the hospitaleros could not have been kinder and more caring, two visits to the ER, XRays and the specialist visit were all provided free of charge and the monks in Santa Domingo de Silos provided me free lodging as an injured pilgrim. They truly made this...
How much training you will need depends on your current fitness level. My first camino was the Frances when I was 54 I trained making sure to get comfortable with my pack and boots. The last at 62 I just picked up the pack and headed to the airport. I had plenty of rest in Portugal before...
I stayed for three days at the former alberque in the park in Burgos. I had bad tendonitis and was taken to the military hospital across the street. The doctors said no walking for two days and then return to the hospital, They had me stay another day to be seen by the specialist who said no...
