Coping with change after Sarria - wisdom needed please

Any chance you can take a day or two off and regroup? Make your days really short? Not sure how many kms you have left to walk but make this last part enjoyable and not something you want to hurry up and finish. I was holed up in a hotel by the large mall in Santiago. While I was waiting to...

LIVE from the Camino running short on time where to cut?

A while back someone had a great suggestion of taxiing ahead at the beginning of the day and then walking the rest of the day. This was for someone who wanted to continue with the whole camino but couldn't walk long distances and had time constraints. You would just need to know where you want...

LIVE from the Camino running short on time where to cut?

Because the busses are tricky I would suggest bussing ahead to Villafranca del Beirzo from Leon or somewhere just prior to that. From what I understand it gets more difficult to bus ahead after Villafranca because the bus route diverts up to Lugo. This is with Alsa, so maybe there are other...

LIVE from the Camino swollen painful feet

Oh, no! How awful for you. Sorry I have no recommendations other than to ask around or Google. I hope the compression socks work, but it sounds like a bit of rest for your feet is in order. And new shoes with a wider toe box. Good luck to you!

    Albergue kitchens closed down

I found it hit and miss which albergues have an open kitchen and which don't. We experienced a wide variety, including a place that cooked for us to a place that only had tables and chairs. My daughter was lamenting the lack of communal dinners, so we used an app to find a place that...

    Albergues at 100% capacity ?

While Roncesvalles is a nice stop, Burguete isn't much further down the road and in the morning you avoid the huge rush of Pilgrims first thing out the door. If you're interested in Ernest Hemingway you can even check out the hotel he used to visit.

    Be prepared... pilgrim rescue

Similar weather around O'Cebreiro a couple days back as well. My husband and daughter are walking right now but say the worst part is Albergues that still don't put their heat on at night. A wool layer is always good because it's warm even if it gets wet. A poncho as a final layer also really...

LIVE from the Camino A Sketchbook Camino

Just finished reading this thread about your journey so far. I injured my knee over a week ago after walking over 100 kms. I was pain free in the morning, a very minor bit of discomfort the first few kms, after getting up from a coffee break a couple of kms further on I was having pain. We...

LIVE from the Camino SJPP - Santiago started 21st March

Hope you're still walking and enjoying the nicer weather. I possibly have tendonitis in my knee and have been immobile for a couple of days. Who knew walking too much on flat ground could cause knee problems.

    Help...which app is best?

I'll take a look and see if I can figure that out. It's not that I'm irresponsible, just not very knowledgeable.

Are you still walking? The sun is out, the wind has died down, but the mornings are still frosty. In Calzadilla.

    Help...which app is best?

First time using any app or smartphone and not finding them that necessary. Using camino ninja and finding it easy to use. It's been wrong a number of times as far as what's open.

LIVE from the Camino Burgos to Leon

Could it be because they turn the heat off at night when it's below 0C?

In Hontanas now. We also had snow today but not that much. Hope you're not too cold.

    Snowing

Arrived in Hontanas today and it's 4C. We experienced some snow but not much. We saw on the news in a bar, some pictures where it was snow covered but didn't catch where it was. Almost reminds us of being back home.

That is great to hear! I made up a half sheet, half down liner to be on the safe side without being too heavy. We should be starting from Burgos on March 31, but coming from a place that still has snow on the hills visible from our windows. Hard not to overpack for warmth.

How are the albergues for heat and blankets? Still finalizing sleeping liners. Not sure if they are providing blankets because of covid. We ate breakfast on the bench in your picture in 2016, after walking up to enjoy sunrise on top of the Alto del Perdon.

Flying out late on March 28 and will start walking from Burgos on March 30 or 31st. Until then I will enjoy reading about your experience. Thanks for sharing!

    Skipping Pamplona?

The last time we walked the camino we stayed in Arre at the parochial albergue just on the other side of the bridge. We didn't know it at the time but it is one of the oldest continually running albergues on the camino and it is also one of the most complete medieval monasteries in Navarra. It...

Is Courtesy Still Alive on the Camino? A Pre-Bookers Rant and more...

Ironically, at the bottom of my page for this thread, there is an ad to book lodging. I have started in St Jean two times. Both times I pre-booked Orrison for the night but it was only the second time that I pre-booked in St Jean. The first time I didn't find a place until very late and it was...
