Thanks so much, all. I was a bit worn out and wanting to save my energy for the Big Climb to O'C, so i took the road walk. Despite the road, it was beautiful, and i was rewarded with a night at the wonderful Casa Susi.
But your instructions were spot on in terms of the entry to the Pradela path...
Quick question. A friend is joining me in O'Cebreiro tomorrow so that we can walk the last week to Santiago together. (We walked St J to Burgos together in 2013.) I walk up from La Faba in the morning and need a place to hang out in O'C for a few hours, eat some lunch, read my book. She comes up...
Hi. I hope to take the Pradela route from villafranca to trabadelo tomorrow. Ive lost my printed guide and notes, so am trying to figure it all out with help of my phone.
Do you have a similar detailed guide to the pradela? I am a little confused as to how to find it, leaving villafranca. And...
Has anyone stayed at Casa El Arbol in La Faba? I don't see it in any guidebooks or mentioned on the forum, but it has a nice website and FB page, and some Google reviews. 10 beds, some bunks, a few private. Maybe it's new?
Hahahaha -- Well, my hiking partner and I are still in our 60's and 70's. Sometimes we feel physically less resilient, but overall we feel more energised and open to life's great adventure than ever before. (I just hate bunkbeds.)
Wow, thank you all. I'm sorry not to have replied earlier but I didn't get the usual notifications of your replies.
So many choices! I admit to being concerned about climbing again on this last section of the Francés. My last Camino was Burgos to Leon, and I'm a city dweller -- so it's been...
Hi there!
I return in May for my third walk along the third-third, Leon To Santiago. I'll walk solo for around ten days and meet up with a friend on a Sunday in O'Cebreiro. She is taking the bus from Madrid, will arrive Pedrafita around 4pm, and then take a taxi up to meet me.
My question is...
You are right about that!! I do carry the insurance but have only had to use it in the US, thank goodness. One thing I do --- I have put an o-ring through one of the holes in the Otter-like case. I have a long cord with a clasp at each end. I keep the phone tethered to my waist pack and can lift...
T-Mobile is the way to go in Europe. Your plan includes unlimited data and calls at 20¢ a minute. Your plane lands, you turn on your phone, and within a minute you see a message welcoming you to Spain. TMobile connects with the local provider automatically, so you don't have to do a thing. This...
What a slip -- Re-reading, I realize I said "gravevines" instead of grapevines. I guess I did have death in mind when I wrote the post. However, at the time, I was pretty blissed out by the Rioja region. It was that point on the camino where the exhaustion and blisters of the first stretch were...
@MIAPilgrim - One of our strengths has always been our ability to laugh in the midst of tragedy, yes?
I haven't yet walked those last 200km. Hoping for fall 2016. But I did spend Rosh Hashanah 2014 in Ventosa. It was kind of bittersweet -- missed my family but was so happy to be walking in such...
For me, an important part of travel is finding sites of Jewish history and culture, old and new. On my two Caminos, I have been aided by this wonderful website, "Caminos de Sefarad, Red de Juderias de España: www.redjuderias.org.
As you walk into Leon, just before Puente Castro, site of the...
This may sound crazy, but there is also an Iberia flight, once a day, several days a week. We took it last year at the end of our walk from Burgos to Barcelona. We paid around $75US, plus a short taxi to the Burgos airport. It was a quick trip and a nice treat to ourselves.
Thanks. I'm going to add their contact info to this thread, along with the above info for BASE: Deportes Manzenado, for future pilgrims stopping in Burgos:

I just received a very nice email reply from Rebeca at BASE: Deportes Manzenado (http://deportesmanzanedo.com.) They do carry bastones (trekking poles) and some basic knives, and their Burgos locations, for anyone interested, are:
C/ Francisco Grandmontagne 26,09007 Burgos
Tlfo:+34 947244351...
Yes!! Calle Madrid, near the bus station. I know the location. They do sell trekking poles and I'll write to them about the other. A small Victorinox knife with folding scissors (which I needed last year to cut my assorted blister bandaging materials!) should be available at a jewelry store, if...
