I am getting a couple of places where Booking.com states they are full but others have encouraged me to contact the hotel directly. When I do, the hotel wants me to wire them money. I am uncomfortable with this. Why have a listing full on booking.com then ask for direct bank payment?
Greetings from Gloucester, Massachusetts!
We will be flying out of Madrid on Oct 20. We are looking for recommendation on where to stay the night of Oct 19. we are getting a lot of messages that hotels are fully booked.
Any suggestions as to where to stay in Madrid will be appreciated.
Thank you!
You will be fine. My wife and I do two types of training. One is several trips up and down a 1/2 k long steep hill for strength. The other is longer walks for endurance. Our average training walk is 8 miles. The week before we go I try to get in two back to back walks of 15 miles with full pack...
We are on our 5th and last camino .I am sitting in Carrion de los Condes. Two albergues here were full by 2pm. The other two are mostly full. We have had to book ahead two or three days but have occasionally found private alburgues already booked solid two days out.
There is no solitude...
Well, we've done Caminho Potuguese from Lisbon, the European Peace Walk Vienna to Trieste, and Via Francigena Sienna to Rome.....We are on Frances now because we never did it in spring before and I have a new hip so we needed an easy walk for me . Never thought it would be this crowded. This...
We stayed in the alburgue at the hotel Sant Anton Abad four nights ago but only because we made reservations. After the Abad alburgue / hotel turned away at least a hundred pilgrims the municipal albergue was opened sometime after 4pm. This was after both the Abad alburgue and hotel were...
Los Arcos was completely full yesterday at 16:30,all 4 albergues. We are in Viana and had to book hotel for Logrono. Not much fun racing for beds. This is our 5th camino so believe me when I say this is a different year! One advice, take care to make reservations in large cities on Saturdays...
We started yesterday in Pamplona. The place is absolutely mobbed with pilgrims. This is our 5th camino and I have never seen anything like this. We are slow so will try to walk between stages stopping at the less popular ends.
Today we just walked to Cizur Menur just to get away from the...
Leaving for our 5th Camino today. There actually is a couple of reasons for Americans to get credentials in advance. 1. We never seem to know what is going to open and when. For example, is May 1st a big holiday in Spain? I dunno. Will offices be open on Monday? and so on. But the bigger reason...
Basically, I blew it. I ordered our passports from this site https://www.santiagodecompostela.me/products/official-pilgrim-credencial-pilgrim-passport-from-the-pilgrims-office-in-santiago on April 8 figuring three weeks would be long enough to allow delivery. The passports were sent on April 11...
Thanks! This will help. Here is a link to the mountain areas of Navarro if anyone is interested

My wife, Pat, and I are starting at the end of April. Where we start will be weather dependent. Is there a online source for a decent weather forecast for the Napoleon route from St Jean that we could monitor a day in advance. We fly into Madrid. If the weather is to be rainy and cold we would...
LOL
I also advise alone. My wife and I walked together but we are a mature couple who long ago worked out issues of space and intimacy.Negotiating the space between you and him while negotiating the space of Camino could detract from both..
As you can see, time, place, and condition determine what various individuals experience as the "hardest" part. I prefer going uphill to downhill. Downhill is tough on the knees and ankles after a while. But for us the most difficult part was the first few days in Galicia after we came down out...
I am absolutely shocked by the number of people walking right now. Forget about quiet contemplation as you walk. This place is like a conga line. Will be in Burgos tomorrow early if the rain is not bad. Rain today raised really sticky mud.
We are holding up well with a few blisters and normal...
Thanks, from what I read the Camino is bursting with people. I think we will hold back a bit at the start so we may arrive Logrono a day or two after the fiesta.
We are leaving Tuesday September 18th and will be starting from Pamplona on the 20th. I understand San Mateo is celebrated between September 20 and September 26. Can we expect shops, restaurants, or other services to be closed during this fiesta?
