Is it "Cruz De Ferro" or "Cruce De Ferro", or something else entirely?

Wow, thanks for the kind words! Will do:

Is it "Cruz De Ferro" or "Cruce De Ferro", or something else entirely?

Thanks for the input and the history. I really appreciate it! If it’s good enough for the cathedral, the spelling is good enough for me :) I ended up doing a little vintage travel poster piece based on a photo I took of my buddy walking up to the cross to set his stone down and just wanted to...

Is it "Cruz De Ferro" or "Cruce De Ferro", or something else entirely?

Hello all, I'm working on a project, and am trying to figure out the correct spelling of "cruz de ferro". I've seen a few different spellings. Anyone have an answer on which is correct?

Astorga lodging hard to come by

we too the bus from Madrid to Astorga and walked to Rabanal that first night. Got there in the late afternoon... it was great!

Could O Cebreiro hostal be full

Well, when I walked, it was May. My companions and I lugged all he way from Villafranca that morning and took the long route over the mountains through Pradela. When we got to O, they were full. Linares was full. We ended up having to backtrack down to Las Herrerias and stayed at a hotel in...

    Spiritual/logistical preparation

Congrats on your decision to go! I also think its great that you are thinking of ways to prepare yourself mentally and spiritually. One book I read before I went that I really enjoyed was called 'The Sacred Journey' by Charles Foster. It talked a lot about the history and practices of...

    Any advice welcomed

WE started in Astorga and I feel like we had plenty of time... 10 days or so. I thought the walk from Astorga to Rabanal was fantastic!

Starting from Astorga on 24 Dec - request for input

We did that same stretch in about that same amount of time, so I don't think your distances are too out of the realm of possibility... but with the variable of winter weather it may become more of a challenge. If it' snowing and you have to "cut trail" down the pilgrim paths, it may be a...

Bedding and rain gear decision questions

Glad to help! And as a heads up, if you buy a bag from cumulus they have a different price when shipped to the US. I don't need a $400 bag either, and at around $180 (depending on what the euro is doing), I found the bag (though a substantial cost) to be an excellent replacement for my old...

Bedding and rain gear decision questions

I say "yes" to sleeping bag, but I'd search out a higher one. This is the one I used: http://sleepingbags-cumulus.eu/uk/categories/sleeping-bags/lite-line-200?gid=61&vid=1 I find that having a sleeping bag was nice and one of the little luxuries that was worth the extra weight. This one is just...

    Got my Pilgrim's Passport

One thing I might recommend, get a small plastic sandwich bag to in which you can store your credential! I kept my credential in my pocket at all times and was glad to have it protected when the weather turned. Or, better yet, Ivar sells a plastic sleeve for just this purpose in the camino...

Packing to Go (with Thanks!) But Will There Be Music?

I stumbled across guitar or two in various allergies along the way! They were mice to sit with and play from time to time. Another thought, if you are bringing an iPad there are many many many apps that turn it into a small virtual piano. Sure, you're not gonna get 88 keys, but it may be enough...

    Is it worth it?

Totally worth it. I think 20 mile days, though taxing, are completely doable. When my friends and I walked, we strung together many days of 20+miles.... sometimes more. If you're going to do that, just be sure to keep your kit light ;)

What size frame for a Compostela?

Hello all, After some research, I've seen that framing a compostela can somehow be a contentious subject. So, hopefully this is an easy question! I'm just trying to figure out what size the compostela is. Is it a standard European paper size? Thanks!

Getting to the Santiago Airport early in the morning

You could just book a taxi when you get to wherever you are staying in Santiago. That's hwo I got to the airport early in the morning! They dropped in, picked us up, and we got to the airport really quickly and easily.

Thanks! Yep, the compostella is still in there. Maybe one day it'll be framed up on the wall.

Please Join in, This Should be a lot of Fun!

Excellent posts! Here's the corner of the shelf in my office: Simple. Just my credential, a map I picked up towards the end, my shell, my compostella, and a lino-block I cut for some prints after I returned home.
