Hi Jacques-D. You probably took the photo! I've been a bit ill over the last year or so, so no Caminos for me. I miss it, so I'm hoping to do one next year. I hope all is well with you! Buen Camino amigo. K
Sound advice. In my 4 years as a Ditch Pig I've suffered no more than a groin strain, a near-death flu, and gunshot wounds. You might not be so lucky.
Seriously though, have a great time and thanks to you all!
If we have too many ditch pigs, I'll volunteer to go to the abattoir (so to speak). I've been fortunate to take part several times, and we don't want anyone taking the dogs' beds from them, do we? Have fun!
I think you'll be fine. It will probably be quieter along most of the route than if you'd started earlier in May. The exception is the last section from Sarria, which does get steadily busier towards high summer. However if you arrive there at the end of June/start of July it will still be well...
Hi! Search the forum and you'll find lots of suggested packing lists. April weather is unpredictable. You'll be walking into the Atlantic weather, so be prepared for some rain. However you may be lucky and get some beautiful spring warmth! Mid April is a popular time for people starting in SJPP...
Hi! Concentrating on the logistics and practicalities beforehand is not a bad start. If you're as prepared as you can be, you can put that behind you and free up your mind more when your Camino begins. Don't expect too much, and don't be disappointed if you reach Santiago thinking 'What was that...
My best bet is early to mid June. The summer peak in the overall number of Compostelas issued is largely the result of people walking from Sarria. The peak times for the rest of the route are Spring and Autumn. Leave SJPP comfortably after May and arrive in Santiago comfortably before August...
I did the journey in the opposite direction last month. It was about 2hrs 20mins and direct. They recently opened a new section of line that cut the journey time. Book in advance for cheaper fares - even the day before can be a bit cheaper than buying on the day.
I've never booked hotels in advance, and have generally only had any difficulty during public/local holidays. That said, it's 4 years since I walked that route at that time of year. Funnily enough, I tried to get into a hostal in Mansilla a couple of weeks ago and it was booked out due to the...
I'm not feeling too sorry for myself. I was just doing a few etapas after the Ditch Pig week, and not aiming for anywhere in particular. When it became clear that my leg needed rested, I went back to Madrid early, met an old friend, and watched Real win 8-0. So I got my gifts in different...
Great to hear from you Sandra! You've tired yourself getting to Pamplona, but you're there! There's nothing ahead of you that's physically more challenging than what you've already achieved. And you'll get stronger as well! I hope the weather's clear when you get to the Pilgrim Monument and see...
