The nicest albergue I stayed in was in Arzua - Albergue Via Lactea. It's a private one run by the most amazing folks. They even put roses in the dorms and the loo's and had bowls of sweeties for pilgrims!! Very clean and modern.
The absolute worst one was Albergue Bono (Municipal) in Sarria...
Hello there
I see Falcon mentioned gnats in a recent reply to a new walker. Quick question - are there gnats and flies along the way in late September through October? If so, are they annoying enough to warrant a head net?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jane
Thanks for all your responses - it's great to hear from you all.
@ Karen - I know the feeling - I had more than eight months to wait when I decided to do the camino. I hope to blog along the way.
@ Tyrrek - it would be great to meet up. Who knows! Buen camino to you!

Hi there
As I count down the days to the start of my camino, my mind has gone into overdrive and some rather curious questions have been raising their heads.
I've jotted my thoughts down in a blog - if you're interested in reading it click on this link :

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I guess it all boils down to the fact that you are doing the Camino for yourself alone - not for your friends or family. And yes, I guess it is odd walking so far when you're supposed to be on holiday.

Hello everyone
I will start walking the Camino with my son on the 21st September (yippee!!) I’ve been training all year, on beautiful quiet country roads and going camping to remote places so that I can walk quiet paths in safety. Along the way I’ve meditated and encountered the most amazing...
I love this topic as I am mad about mantras - I use them every day.
I will be walking in September and I have bought myself the Brierley guidebook, which I see has a section for reflections every day. I have written down a small mantra and a prayer for each day in this section, which I will...
Hi Petro
From a fellow South African who is doing the Camino in September/October, I wish you a wonderful blessed walk. Don't panic - just relax and enjoy it.
Via con dios!

Hi everyone
Have heard conflicting stories about pilgrim's passports. Are they free or do you have to buy them, if so, what price are they?
Thanks.
Jane
Hi everyone
Thanks very much for your replies. I am glad that I don't have to book as I wouldn't like to feel pressurised into being at a certain place on a given day. Glad to hear that I can do it my way.
Appreciate your replies.
Warm wishes
Jane
Hi everyone
I am not sure if this has been covered somewhere on the site already, but I am going to be doing the Camino from SJPP from 21st September 2011 to Santiago (allowing myself 40 days) and I was wondering if it is essential to book accommodation in advance. Your comments on this would...
