That was June 21 - just around the corner as you begin the walk downwards away from the Cathedral. I was just relieved to have found the Cathedral! Beautiful city.
I walked Lisbon to Porto last month. Day 1 I flew into Lisbon, got the train to the Cathedral and then walked 8kms to Parque das Nacoes. Then on day 2 walked to Vila Franca.
I pondered whether to bring my light weight over-jacket and over-trousers - but we had 2 days of intermittent rain so I'm glad I did. Same with my light weight fleece - we had a couple of evenings that weren't cold by UK standards but were definitely chilly. Rest of the time blue skies and warm...
Time to start planning the next one (well once you've done your return to the UK covid test). Currently in Sao Jaoa - great town (and no outrageous hills). I walk to Porto tomorrow and then home on Friday. Was thinking of you today - there's a lot of road walking! Safe travels.
I'm on day 11 from Lisbon to Porto and outside of the airport and airlines no one has asked to see my vacc cert or negative covid test. I presume they are relying on the fact that to get into Portugal I had to submit a negative test.
Hi Phil - great walking with you this morning. The time definitely flew by. As you say, most cafes etc seem open - except for today as it's Sunday. But it's definitely quiet out there - I had one dorm to myself last night and Ricardo from Barcelona had the other. So there are pros and cons...
Carrying my bag (without a tent etc) is enough for me, but funnily enough I was watching this video a few days ago by a Swedish guy walking the Portugues: . The bits I watched included him camping, although I haven't watched his follow up videos. Might be a useful source of info re camping on...
Am tentively looking at Lisbon to Porto from mid-June (12th-25th) - I did Porto to Santiago in 2018. Portugal is accepting Brits from today and is on the UK Green List for travel. I'll have had both vaccine jabs by then and will be required to take 3 Covid tests (1 PCR before leaving the UK...
Walked past here with my wife in 2018. Stopped for something to drink. Absolutely terrific feeling to the place and very very friendly people - in particular I remember a very kind Canadian woman. Also remember my wife saying she wished we knew about the place and had stayed there overnight...
Thanks. I decided to wait a few days and see what happens (both there and here). My bag is packed and ready to go. I've been looking on gronze, wise pilgrim and booking.com and as you say there seems to be sufficient accommodation options. Stay safe.
Unfortunately that seems to be the case. When I checked yesterday the 10 day rate per 100k pop was rising in both countries, but was around double in the UK (and France and Spain) compared to Portugal.
Thanks for all the intel. I'm considering jumping on a plane from London to Lisbon tomorrow and walking to Porto (having done Porto to Santiago in 2017). Even the rain forecast for the week after next isn't putting me off (too much). Personally having to isolate on my return isn't too much of...
Thanks for the info re accommodation availability. I'm tentatively 'planning' on walking Lisbon to Porto next month (having done Porto to Santiago in 2018).
