I have said this before, will likely say it again…Pasteis de Nata! There are places you can watch them make these custard tarts in front of you, pop the in that screaming hot oven, and sell you one right out….fantastic!
Do not miss them!
I enjoyed the CP, but I do have to admit it was too short a walk. CF is the popular first Camino, but it is, in my opinion has a lot to do with the length that allows you to get into your own head.
We started our CP in Porto, and after we spent a couple days in Santiago, we returned by bus to spend 3 days exploring this beautiful heritage site. Well worth it, such a pleasant way to end before flying home to ‘reality’.
Want the hands down best suggestion? Do not, under any circumstances, miss a chance to scarf down as many Pasteis de Nata custard tarts! Porto was one of my favourite cities, and these were a big part of that!
Nice to hear people are on the move again.
Loved the Camino start in Porto, and had to go back to explore Porto after we got to Santiago.
Enjoy your journey!
If you start in Porto- it is one of the most beautiful places to stay...try the tarts and the many port houses!
We took the bus back for a couple of days to explore Porto after we reached Santiago. Only a 3 hr bus ride!
Sorry!

Best ever...well, short of going back to Porto for some port! Good thing I have some in my stores!
My wife and I did Porto to Santiago in 2018. We started first day on the coastal route, then day 2 cut into the central route. The little cut in was a busy traffic and cobblestone fest, which was really the only down side.
We took 6 days to walk to Santiago, and a 3 hour bus ride back to...
My vote is Porto.
We started there, then bused back for 3 days before our return home after Santiago. Loved it. Must try the port, and the custard tarts!
