I have visited several Turno in my travels, Madrid, Seville and Palma come to mind. Thanks for sharing about this one, though now you have me contemplating yet another Camino to visit. While not using a Turno, I remember findly visiting a cloistered convent in Hollywood (sin city) to buy...
I am very frequent traveler and always suggest waiting to buy a train ticket in a situation like this once you have cleared customs and have baggage in hand. There are plenty if different trains and they typically have open seats. Do get the CP app for your phone and you can download train...
I stayed in the Hotel Antolin in Cesantes just after Redondela. Nice place, beach front on the bay. Staying there again this year. Paying 54€ for a private room. Just off the Camino.
Just saw this on another Camino board So not sure as to the accuracy.
“Sport Zone in the Via Catarina shopping mall situated on R de Santa Catarina in central Porto definitely has poles.”
Because you are not looking to do a traditional pilgrimage ending in Santiago, I would suggest doing an online search for hiking in Portugal. There are plenty of companies out there that you can see where they go. Unless you are set on carrying a pack on a hike through, you may be able to find...
Unless you are planning to make a large number of phone check with your cell phone provider to see what their international plan offers. I am with Sprint and they offer a global roaming plan that offers free data and texts, and phone calls are 20 cents a minute. I believe T-mobile has a similar...
I set out to walk from Lisbon in September of 2013. After one day I ended up changing plans and taking the train to Tomar and Coimbra and on to Porto where I resumed walking. In 2013, September was hotter than usual, over 100 degrees in Lisbon, Porto was about 15 degrees cooler. Given the...
It appears on the Camino Portugese more people are transporting their packs than are wearing them. Some don't even bother with packs and use regular suitcases.
Plenty of options to chose from.
I started off from Braga yesterday and arrive in Ponte de Lima to find the alberque full and lots of hotels full, or nearly full. I am wondering if I hit a bubble of pilgrims or if it is like this all the way to Santiago.
I would recommend skipping the alberque in Pontevedra and stay in town. Pontevedra has a lot to see, and a alberque is on the outskirts so it's more convenient in town.
If you have a cell phone with Sprint service, register for their Global roaming program. Phone calls are 20 cents per minute...
Easiest way to me is the train from Porto-Companha. No connections to worry about and tickets can be found for about 10 euro without advance purchase.
Check the Portuge railway schedule and select a time that is best for you. Travel times/prices vary and the shortest time may not be the...
I walked from Porto starting at the cathedral. Instead of checking out of my hotel, I simply did the first day of the camino leaving my backpack at the hotel. At the end of the day I stopped for a cold beer in Mosteiro then walke 1.2 km to catch the metro at Vilar Pinheiro back to Porto. The...
Walked the Portuguese Route in 2013 and my one regret was that in Pontevedra I stayed out at the alberque. It's a great town with some good sights and a few really excellent restaurants. I ended up returning after finishing in Santiago. I also found the day from Tui to Redondella very long so...
