I got to 2 Bars with great fado music/song just off their main pedestrianised street . They really let give 100% in performance, even the locals. The mercado near Balhoa? metro and all the things mentioned above. Even the outdoor/indoor retro decor and location of the Macdonalds surpriseses...
I stayed in the new municipal? and good albergue - good facilities by the "roman" bridge on the way out of Calda last year. It is run by the english owner of the bar/restaurant on the corner neaby. Good food, historic area by the the tree lined scenic river. I had stayed elsewhere in Calda...
To see Santiago/Cathedral etc for at least a day you should start in Barcelos - a lovely town with nice albergues . I think you can get a bus from Porto.
I was delighted to find some "fado" (poruguese folk music) bars about the centro and just off Caterina. The atmosphere, music and song delivery was full on and wonderful - no amplification needed. They also have a unique retro Macdonalds with lovely terrace in Porto and lovely little shops, a...
I think yes, but get a "stamp" there if possible. i got a cert on my first camino starting from a few km before porrino. my first stamp was in oporrino.
Do book to stay a night at Casa Fernanda 20 kms from Barcelos, on the right side of the road. Evening meal and breakfast -donativo- It will be a highlight. Buen Camino.
marathons in ireland in are done in temps of about 17deg or even less, it is twice that in spain/portugal now. another thread mentions a lady collapsing from heat/exhaustion on a camino 2days ago.
Yes, just my opinion, 5 days walking days should do it from Tui, or 6 if you stop in Oporrino. There are frequent bus services if required between "Camino towns" from Pontevedra into SDC. Do veer left to the new route 4/5 k before Oporrino and avoid the soul destroying walk through the industial...
I have just completed that route. - Starting in Limerick-! I have never seen anyone running or really speed-walking on any of my Caminos! if you do you will see nothing and have no interaction with fellow pelegrinoes . It is 10 days walking at a reasonable pace and if the sun is hot -say...
I have just finished that Camino. Be practical. The last 2 stages from porto, from Ponte de Lima have no intermediate accommodation: also a very difficult and steep climb into remote Rubiaes. The Spanish side is more suitable for shorter stages and frequent buses if needed as they work out of...
Thanks, useful info as I start the route from Porto on 6th of june. Is it a very windy walk? I expect the stage from Villa de Conde inland to barcellos to be difficult because of busy roads.
