    Hostels out of Lisbon

This is where we stayed, I admit, it was a bit of a splurge: https://www.sleepinbucelas.pt/

    Hostels out of Lisbon

When we walked it in 2021, we took for a cab from Alpriate to a nearby lodging and back again the next morning to start from there. Not an optimal solution, certainly more expensive than an albergue, but it worked.

Albergues on the Camino Portugese from Lisbon

We walked to Alpriate day and then took a taxi to a place called Sleep Inn Bucelas. Took a taxi back to Alpriate the next day. It’s not an albergue to be sure, cost us a little more, but it was a great place to stay for the first night.

Albergues on the Camino Portugese from Lisbon

Oops, looks like it’s not going to post the link. It’s the albergue Dos Caminhos in Valada

Albergues on the Camino Portugese from Lisbon

I don’t know if it’s open by mid March, but this Albergue is not far from where Paula used to have her Albergue south of Santarem: https://www.facebook.com/caminhodesantiagoportugues?mibextid=LQQJ4d

Suggestions for 8-10 day segment on Portuguese Camino (May 2023)?

I understand and appreciate what you are trying to do. My husband and I did a five day trial section of the Camino Frances back in 2019, from Pamplona to Logrono, specifically to see how much training we would need and whether my artificial knee would be up to it. That certainly didn’t diminish...

    Portuguese route accommodation

Yes, when we walked this route in late Aug/early Sept, we started progressively earlier each day, and had mostly short days at that! Even so, one day I found myself getting dangerously close to overheating - but after a rest in the shade (the only shade we could find was an underpass on a...

    Portuguese route accommodation

We walked this Camino last year during the prime of the pandemic. The Albergue in Alpriate was closed so we had reserved in advance a room at a private small hotel in Bucelas, a nearby town. When we got to Alpriate we called a cab who took us to Bucelas and brought us back the next morning to...

Vila Franca de Xira to Azumbuja or Valada?

We did stay with Paula at Quinta da Burra in Sept 2021, but according to our schedule, before I knew that Quinta da Burra would be open, I'd planned on staying at Albergue Dois Caminhos in Valada, and that would break up the day between Azumbuja and Santarem. So, to summarize, our initial plan...

Vila Franca de Xira to Azumbuja or Valada?

It’s unfortunate that you only have two days because it really would be better to break this into three, depending on the weather. When we walked around 1 September last year, it was so hot that we could really only walk in the morning, by the time it was early afternoon the heat was unbearable...

    Vegetarians in Portugal--check out Migas

I lived on cheese and mushroom omelettes when we were journeying on our Camino through Portugal! And even though I ate so many of them, they were all delicious! (they often were not on the menu, but when I asked for something vegetarian and suggested an omelette, the proprietors were happy to...

    Coimbra vs Fisterre

We walked the Camino Portugues starting and Lisbon up to Santiago and then on to Finisterre and Muxia. I would recommend a third choice. I would start in Golega, then walk through Tomar and Ansiao and Coimbra, ending in Agueda, then transport to Porto to meet your friends. That way you will get...

Camino portuguese this week - Sept 13, 2021

Sounds good, we’re heading out of town about 6:30 in the morning but we’re slow and take breaks 😉

Camino portuguese this week - Sept 13, 2021

I hope we get to meet up along the way. In fact, tonight we could meet for coffee if you’d like, near the Santiago church, but we’ve already had an early dinner.

Camino portuguese this week - Sept 13, 2021

Hello Daniel. My husband and I, plus one more American couple, are departing Coimbra tomorrow morning also. We will be heading up to Mealhada to spend the night and the next night our plan is to be staying in Agueda. Our lodging in Mealhada is Residencial Pinho Verde, and it’s Agueda Hostel &...

Backpack courier service along Camino Portugues?

Thank you Tincatinker - it looks like the service is only available from Porto onwards with Tuitrans, or only as part of the complete package with Camino Ways. We plan to carry our backpacks ourselves, but would just like to have some idea if an alternative is available should we need it...

Backpack courier service along Camino Portugues?

We are starting out next week from Lisbon to walk the Camino Portuguese! But I am starting to wonder if there might be some days where we will feel incapable of carrying our bags, what is the alternative in Portugal? I know in Spain the correo service will take the bags for a small fee and...

    COVID Camino Portugués during covid

My husband and I will also be walking the Camino from Lisbon, starting on 30 August. We’re going to take it slow, so perhaps we will run into you! Bom Caminho

    Detour to Braga

MQB, I realize this has been awhile, but would you happen to remember if the trail from Braga to Ponte de Lima passed by any villages where accommodations could be found? We are preparing to walk this path, and can't find the route anywhere - we want to break it into two days, but we're not...

COVID COVID Notice for staying in hotels and restaurants in Portugal

I've been asking pilgrims who are on the Camino Portugues now, and they're telling me that it's possible to message the lodging establishments in advance and find out if they'll accept the CDC vaccination card. In fact, they also say that most of the lodgings are accepting it.
