Travel from Paris to St Jean Pied de Port

Actually, only two trains. Montparnasse to Bayonne, then transfer to a smaller train to SJPdP.

Travel from Paris to St Jean Pied de Port

I'm definitely no expert on Paris, but both times that I've been there I've taken one of the free (not totally free - the guides rely on tips) walking tours available, and always learn something new. As far as I know, most trains to Bayonne, then on to SJPdP depart from Gare Montparnasse. The...

    Newbie

I live in Southern Oregon, but I grew up in Sacramento. I find the weather along the Camino to be very similar to California and Southern Oregon.

    My first Camino in May

I just told my husband today that I'm in the indecision phase of my planning - and I've already done 7 Caminos!

Avoiding the Crowd on the last 5 stages. Where to stay

Last June I joined the Francés from the Primitivo at Melide. After lunch in Melide my walking companions and I continued on to Boente. The next day we stayed at Albergue Astrar near Santa Irene - our group we're the only pilgrims staying there that night. It's 700 meters off of the Camino...

Maybe a rude question! How old are you?

@Pelerina - your mother sounds a lot like mine, who is 93 and still lives in her own home with her boyfriend of the same age and drives on road trips (the road trip part makes me nervous though!). She and her boyfriend go to the gym at least twice a week, play bridge regularly, and have a more...

Maybe a rude question! How old are you?

Which is too bad, because I find the Camino information on those types of platforms to be disjointed. IMHO this forum is the best source of Camino information, but I might be biased. 😉

I forgot to introduce myself: I'm Miri, Shalom from Israel!

I think that some of the recent posts on this thread may have missed the fact @mirinitz walked her Camino 6 months ago.

Buen Camino! Which route are you planning on?

Frances or Norte, the social aspect

Actually, accommodation can be more difficult on the Norte. Yes, there are fewer pilgrims, but inexpensive pilgrim accommodations are far less than the Francés, especially the early stages. I find that the Norte requires a bit more planning than the Francés because of the accommodation issue...

    Rain ponchos along the routes?

You probably can buy one, but what happens if the next town is several more hours away and you get caught in a rain storm? I wouldn't go anywhere in the Spring without rain protection. There's a reason why Galicia is green! 🌧️

    Down Packable Coat in April?

Fleece or down jacket, whichever weighs less.

    Cell phone reception Camino Frances

Also, if you use apps like Buen Camino or Wise Pilgrim, you can download the data and maps, and the apps can be used offline without a internet connection.

    Cell phone reception Camino Frances

I have used T-Mobile service on all of my Caminos, and can only think of a couple of times when I had spotty reception.

Resources for things to see while on Norte route

Also consider downloading the Wise Pilgrim app. It has a bit more cultural information than Buen Camino. Or you can find the same info via this link: Online Guide (beta) The Cicerone Guide is a good resource too.
