    That sucks and it ain't no fun. I was stuck in Bangkok Thailand back in 2008 when a sort of a coup shut down the airport for weeks. If you can't get a cab share with others just hunker down in Bayonne-Biarritz until the bus or train rolls again. It's a lovely town.

    I've always paid extra and flew priority and never had a problem with my backpack (32 and 48 liter size) being allowed onboard and I recall them even saying if I wanted to check it on in the hold I could do so for free.

    Yes, I carried on my backpack. I always get rid of everything I don't need anymore before I fly home and I pull all the straps in tight to make the pack as small as possible. I've never had a problem putting it in the overhead. In fact I see people carrying on bags way bigger than my backpack.

    Getting to the ALSA buses just outside the exit at T4 takes only a few minutes. I believe there's an ALSA kiosk on your left just before you exit.

    The local government there in Saint Jean actually closes the Napoleon route in dangerous, inclement weather. It gets closed for all pilgrims. No exceptions.
