LIVE from the Camino Geira e dos Arrieiros - June 2021

We stayed at the Friends in Braga Guesthouse. It was not quite as central as what we would normally choose, but it was unbelievably cheap and close to a Lidl, so good for stocking up. Friendly family atmosphere. Friends in Braga - Guesthouse 910 813 868 https://maps.app.goo.gl/AztiHf3BkJw3h7Up6

    Hopeful plan for the Geira

Thanks @gracethepilgrim . I was going to say that I don't know the name of the place where they merge, and actually I don't think there's any kind of settlement there. But yeah, I agree you'd be adding a lot of kilometers by backtracking to walk the Roman road.

    Hopeful plan for the Geira

OK, that makes sense! Yes, you will see some milestones starting in Santa Cruz, but then once you take the turnoff to Terras de Bouro I don't expect you'll see any more, because you'll be off the Roman road at that point. I can't remember how many there were before vs after the turnoff, but I do...

    Hopeful plan for the Geira

Hi Laurie! A couple of things jump out at me about this itinerary. 1. It might not be clear from the maps and guides, but going down to Terras de Bouro is OPTIONAL and is actually a detour off of the original Geira Roman road. If you do this, you will miss a number of the Roman milestones, and...

    Questions about Ribadavia

Well well, it's clear which side they're on! I guess that's not too surprising, coming from a government office. The dispute does seem to be heating up. A few days ago, there was a group of 87 scouts who walked the Geira, and the Miñoto Ribeiro association is trying to claim them in their own...

    Questions about Ribadavia

Hi Laurie! I had hoped to visit that church, but because of the rain we didn't make it there. We could just about spot it from the other side of the river as we passed by, but as you rightly said, there is no bridge near there. And we just didn't feel like going back out in the rain again that...

LIVE from the Camino Geira e dos Arrieiros - June 2021

@Pelegrin Thanks for your positive feedback! I didn't realize there was such a big difference between rural and normative Galego. But I've been chatting on WhatsApp with some galegos I met on the Camino, and they are using words I can't find in the RAG dictionary, like paveas and tarreos. I...
