Yes we arrived in Santiago on April 30th with a few rest days.
I just looked back through my photos and not sure of the temps but most days we were wearing long sleeve tops and a few days in just t shirts. I don’t remember it being particularly cold and we posted gloves, beanies etc home from...
Hi Dan,
We booked flights with Qatar - Perth, Madrid, San Sebastián and return Santiago,Madrid,Perth on the one ticket. The internal flights in Spain are with Iberia.
It worked well and we caught a taxi from San Sebastián airport to Irun . Only a short walk but after such a long flight the taxi...
I walked the Primitivo from Oviedo last year which was wonderful and then walked Camino del Norte from Irun this year and was really pleased to stay on the Norte. Most pilgrims were staying on the Norte mainly due to the weather ( early April ) and thinking Primitivo would be too cold. If you...
Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I ended up walking the coastal route ( as advised strongly by Pepe in Soto de Luiña ) since all the pilgrims I asked were going that way. Weather was fine but there had been rain so it was a lot of muddy trails and crossing streams and constant up and down...
I will be starting towards the end of March and walking with my husband but wish you well with your Camino. Hopefully there will be a few more pilgrims on the way this year. Buen Camino.
Thanks for all the info. I am pleased that the albergue will be open. The guidebook suggested that it wouldn’t open until Easter and I was beginning to worry that accomodation might become difficult.
Thanks. I am arriving at night after a long flight so thought I would stay in Irun and slowly start the next morning and only walk to Hondarribia and have a relaxing afternoon there. The following day walk to San Sebastián. I don’t want to overplan the journey but would like to be organised for...
I am starting in Irun in March this year and since the albergue will not be open I would like to know if there is a church where I can get my first stamp in the credencial.
Any tips from others who have previously walked in March would be much appreciated.
I imagine there will be lots of rain...
Thank you for your tips and all the information in your blog. I will be walking the del Norte with my husband ,starting in Irun in March and am really looking forward to the journey.
Thanks. I didn’t realise there was a metro so that makes it much easier to get to Irun so I will take your advice and stay in SS first and then start the Camino in Irun. I don’t think the albergue in Irun will be open in March so would need to book a room there unless I catch an early morning...
I have flights booked from Perth ( Australia) to San Sebastian arriving in the late afternoon. Trying to decide whether to book a few nights in SS to have a rest / recovery day after the long flight and then train to Irun to walk back to SS or go straight to Irun and try and break the walk to SS...
Thank you Andrew,
I had initially thought I’d book 3 nights in San Sebastian- the first after arriving at the airport in the evening after almost 26 hours travelling and then a rest day to recover from jet lag and explore the city and then on the third day train to Irun and walk back to San...
I am an older and slower walker and have also been looking for options for shorter distances. An AirBnB in Pasaia is a good idea - did it work out well ? Starting from Irun on about March 20th this year and both excited and nervous.
