LIVE from the Camino Starting the Camino del Norte January 30th 2024

The brutal coastal route to Deba is the absolutely stunning, UNESCO Geoparc Basque with 60 million years of history visible in the Flisch sedimentary rock formations. Follow the red and white markings of the GR121, tour of Guipizkoa.

    Pavement!!!

I only walked as far as Santander but really disliked the amount of tarmac and the frequent proximity to the highway. The best bits were away from the coast where all towns are now so built up. Mind you CF has plenty of tarmac too, including the first 18k from St Jean Pied de Port to...

Connecting to Camino del Norte from Saint-Jean-Pied-du-Port

I have walked this section of the GR10 several times and agree that is it a very tough walk with over 1200m of ascent and is not advisable in poor weather or if not fit. However it provides one of the best days ridge walking on the entire length of the GR10 and I highly recommend it for strong...

St Jean de Luz - Hendaye coastal path closed (for repair, Nov 2021)

The coastal path between Ciboure and Hendaye was closed to pedestrians on 9/11/21 as it has become dangerous due to recent cliff falls. Pilgrms should follow the traditional inland route via the village of Urrugne

Decisions soon—Advice please! Bilbao or irun?

There are frequent buses from Pamplona to San Sebastian. From San Sebastian the suburban railway ('Topo') runs every half hour to Irun. Agree with @Jenny@zen that Hondarrabia would be a good place to start. There is an albergue up the hill towards Guadelupe. There are also buses from San...

Irun to San Sebastian is a glorious walk

    Where should I start?

I am not sure of the route out of Bayonne but once you get to the coast at Bidart there is a lovely coastal path via St Jean de Luz all the way to Hendaye. At the end of the beach in Hendaye there is a ferry to Hondarrabia. This is a much nicer way of reaching Hondarrabia than the official one...

    Camino Norte June

I collected a credencial at an albergue in Hondarrabia, Capitán Tximista, on the way up to Guadelupe
