I think it’s a great Idea the Norte is beautiful any time of the year. The crowds will only be in the towns and that can be fun. You may even get a swim in but the water is pretty cold up north. Buen Camino
Great walk, San Sebastian can be tricky for accomodation so arrive by train look at the beautiful city and then walk on. It is a beautiful walk to Bilbao. Buen Camino
Wow I have walked 10 Caminos staying at Pensions and Albergues and have never spent more than 1,000 Euros on each. Doesn’t seem like a bargain to me. On saying that I walk the Camino to get back to basics not as a tourist.
Each to their own.
I am on the Portuguese at the moment. My favourite Camino is the Norte. It is just beautiful. To ELL I have walked the Norte twice once when wet and muddy and once very dry wore Sandals most of the time.
Victoria you will love the Norte it is very beautiful. The Albergues are a little more expensive but there are a few more now than when I walked in 2015. Their have been improvements to some of the hard parts by the addition of wooden stairs and pathways. There is a very steep hill coming into...
I agree with Kanga. The Norte is my favourite Camino especially Irun to Bilbao, it used to be harder but with stairs and walkways it is quite a bit easier now. Like Kanga said the Frances
is very beautiful and unique. You will meet a lot of first time walkers and experience a good comradeship...
I have a fear of heights, and that section scared the hell out of me.... only little prickly bushes to hang on to.. I was so disappointed to find out when I came down there was an alternate way around that hill. The walk along the beach was one of my favourite parts.
The Albergue is completely through San Sebastián. It is a long walk back to the beautiful town. If I was to do it again I would find a room in a pension in the heart of town. You are very tired when you get there especially if it's been raining. It is such a long walk into and back from town.
The Camino Norte is twice as hard as the French Camino and unless you read the maps carefully you will be doing extra km. I would just take it day by day. The distances are longer and lots of mountains to climb. Taking the alternative routes is something you can decide on the day on your ability...
After arriving at Gondan the Albergue was closed with a note on the door asking to call this number at
Curve Cafe. We had no phone and thought the next Albergue was 8 Kms away. So we pitched our
Emergency tent. After a horrible night of dogs barking crazy, animal noises and not much sleep.
The...
Have just stayed at 2 new Albergues on the Camino Norte....first one at Muros De Nalon. Very well done... Great position. Cost 16 euro for dorm bed, meal 10 euro and breakfast 3 euro. The only negatives were the three big dogs that continually barked until 11pm maybe they continued but I fell...
Be very careful after leaving Deba someone has painted black over the arrows and has placed a couple of black arrows pointing the wrong way. They have repainted the yellow arrows out of Deba but after about 1 km the arrows are missing. Be careful and look for square black patches on the trees...
