Yes, that is what I wanted to say.... that by the time July hits you will be north in the mountains where it is significantly cooler.

Wish I could remember the name of the place..... oh yeah, it didn't have one!! Although I am sure it does, but the door has no name over it.
But.... it is well known.... a little hole in the wall that opens to a large sitting at picnic table area and jsut one dancer, one singer and one guitar...
One of the things I liked about the Via were the main cities one crosses. Merida, Caceres, Salamanca, Zamora and Ourense. Each with historical value. I recommend checking them out as a tourist. Unless, of course, you plan on going back to Spain someday as a tourist. One thing.... do not be...
I had a scary moment with a dog on the Norte.
I took a shortcut mentioned in the guide and I assume this dog rarely sees pilgrims. He managed to get loose from his tie-up and charged at me. He was very large and came up from behind. I did not know the rules but I instinctively walked ahead...
Last night I spent it in Gondan and from my bed I could see all the cows and their babies just outside my window. The Mooooing was non-stop and realized there was a fight going on between 2 cows. One cow was bleeding out of her eye. Yucky.
On the Via I saw many bulls (I looked) and one time...
You are all set, then. I loved the Via and I hope you do as well. June and the rest of summer will be very hot there. Carry a lot of water. In Aljucen take advantage of the ROman Baths that give special price to pilgrims.

I know some of us tolerate the cold better than others. I am one of the others. I was cold many times on the Via last year in May, June and early July. One night it snowed on the mountain in front of the albergue and during the day it was soooo windy, that I wrapped my sarong around my head...
Bathing suit not necessary if you have something else you can wear.
At Aljucen, for the Roman Baths, I wore my undies. They almost look like a bathing suit. My son was with me.
At Ourense, I went to the private ones on the right side of the road... 3 euros and they rented a bathing suit to...
Before I left for the Via, I knew of a couple of others who were going as well around the same time. We made a decision to stay in touch via email, since it is available quite frequently, until we finally made connection and met. That was fun. I also bought a phone and that allowed us to make...
Ohh, and how could I forget.... Sevilla!!
Beautiful, incredibly beautiful, fun. Went to a futbol game and went to a little hole in the wall for some down-home flamenco. Met several pilgrims there as well.
How can you resist??

Compared to the Camino Frances, yes, the difference is huge! In Merida, though, the albergue was full. There are less walkers but more cyclists, for sure. When I walked the Frances, I too had time to walk alone, especially since I left later than most and was not in the crowd, until I reached...
Oh noooo, Kelly, I hope it was not my notes that made you change your mind!! I too am very social, and I met people all along the way. Whether they were pilgrims or locals, hospitaleros... And from what I see, this year has more people on it just from this forum alone, than I remember from...
I walked with my son until Banos de Montemayor and then was alone. I have always felt safe. Yes I was alone much of the time but I had no concerns. I walked from May until July

In her last post she writes of how they're famous along the route, that people knew of her. Which reminded me of how that happened to me as well. Many times I would meet pilgrims who would say they had heard of an American/Spaniard woman walking with her son, or the hospitalero had heard from...
I do not recall seeing designated camp grounds along the Via de la Plata. I may be wrong. I did see many places along it that would be ideal for camping, secluded even. The distances between "stages" are longer than the CF, so I would be prepared to carry food and water into the area you plan...
In El Real de la Jara, sleep in the upstairs room, for the downstairs one is crowded, the ceiling is barely above your head and the flies are in the hundreds.
In Aljucen make sure you go to the Roman bath house. It is beautiful and comforting to be in the waters. And for pilgrims, 5Euros each...
I misplaced the one I got at the cathedral in Sevilla and got another one in the albergue in Merida. In between I had a sheet of paper stamped in each town until I arrived in Merida in case the albergues had an issue with me not having a stamped credencial. The one from Merida is a very nice...
