    Rationing

I tend to prefer the less walked routes so always carry some food. I keep a small stock of energy bars for emergencies. I always carry a tin of tuna so any type of bread makes a reasonable meal. I also carry a few oranges as they do not need to be washed before eating. Besides that, I do not...

How much Spanish do you need on the VDLP

There are some great translation apps out there now including some that facilitate near real time conversations. I use Say Hi and had a lovely conversation with a 90 year old lady in their albergue on the Primitivo. She thought the whole thing was fascinating.

Compostela For the Via de la Plata

I walked that route a few years back and they just wanted to know how far I had walked.

Considering this as a 2nd Camino in September ...

Just use the Wise Pilgrim app and it will be fine as the apps don’t care which way you are walking.

    Best guide for VDLP beginner?

I used the old version a couple of years ago and it was excellent. I try and use a WP app for all of my caminos as for me it is an ‘all in one’ solution. Unfortunately, I now walk the less used paths so WP has not covered them.

    Sanabres Guide

From memory the Wise Pilgrim app for the VdlP covers the Sanabres and is excellent.

    How/why is VdlP difficult?

I walked the VdlP a few years ago (after the Frances and the Norte) and cannot say that it stood out as being difficult. I found it to be a lovely camino and i used the Wise Pilgrim app for everything!

Walk without it and you will see more, as will those close to you :)

Walking the VDLP - Sanabres or continue to Camino Frances

If you have walked the Frances before I would definitely chose the Sanabres. It is a good and well supported route.

Best Time to walk the Via de La Plata

I thin you will find the Wise Pilgrim app for the VdlP extremely useful.

Map of via De la plata in merida

Get the Wise Pilgrim app and all your questions will be answered. I used it almost exclusively on the VdlP last year ( and the Sanabres)

    Packed For The Rain ?

Yes, and I vote for a poncho as well. I got mine in Spain on the Camino Norte a few years ago in an agricultural store for 10 euros! Easy to slip on and off. Goes over the rucksack and keeps you dry and at the right temperature as you can wear what you want underneath!

    Poles to Sevilla

If you really must use those dam annoying poles you can always buy some on arrival. A camino friend of mine picked up some for 7 euros earlier this year.

    Is albergue in A Gudina....

When I was there in May I talked to someone already in the albergue which they said smelt bad (damp I think). It's still a temporary place as the main AdP is still closed after debugging. Decided to avoid and the next three places were full! Luckily, we walked a bit more down the road and got a...

    How busy is VDLP ?

Found most of the municipal albergues to have space in May 16 and there is almost always other places to stay.

Loved the VdlP so what next?

Yes. Mostly very well but I would recommend the wise pilgrims app - via de la plata.

Loved the VdlP so what next?

I walked from Seville and took 32 days. Could have done it in around 30 but I am happy to walk 30kms plus per day and my natural pace is quite fast. Certainly wont be many people there in Feb but may be a bit cold and wet!

Castilian - thank you very much. You were obviously posting when I was typing. Great info and that will give me plenty to consider over the next few months!
