New albergue in Xinzo de Limia

I have not stayed but really liked Xinzo when I walked through a few years ago, the locals were so friendly and I ended up getting taken to the town hall for a stamp. I don't think they see many pilgrims. My other stops were the albergues in Verin, Viladerrei and Sandias. I stopped at a hostal...

Winter on the Via de la Plata

I walked from Sevilla a long time ago in Feb and March, the weather was up and down. When I reached the first arrroyo a four wheel car turned up at the same time. Round Galisteo and Carcabaso it was very cold ,wet and windy and was advised to get the bus to Aldeanueva del Camino which I did so...

    Ourense to Santiago

I have walked this section in early March, the first time the weather was fine, just a bit chilly but it was muddy in sections. But the second time it was really wet and cold and by the time I got to Castro Dozon it snowed so was a bit bleak at the albergue because I was the only one there and...

    Which Guide?

I used a Spanish guide called Guia del camino mozarabe de Santiago Via de la Plata by the associacion de Amigos del camino de Santiago de Sevilla but I walked this route a long time ago so mine is quite old. I brought it in Seville and do not know if there are updated versions but I think it...

    Sanabres (from Verin to Ourense)

I have not walked this route this year but walked in 2013 but I don't think it will have changed much. This was my route and where I stayed. Verin albergue, Vilar de Rei albergue, Sandias albergue, Allariz Hostel Alarico although I later found out there was an albergue here. In Verin the key...

    Salamanca - Zamora

Yes, I agree with the other posts, don't miss it. The first time I walked this section it was really hot so stayed at a little albergue in Calzada de Valdunciel and also stayed in El Cubo. The family in El Cubo were really helpful and friendly.

Starting from a place not on the route

I always get my first stamp from my local church in the UK even though I don't start walking from there. I have also had signatures on my credential when no-one in the smaller places could find a stamp or the ink had dried up. When I started the vdlp a long time ago I decided to start in...

    Cea to Laxe bypassing Oseira

I walked this route last year and it was well marked, I have also walked via Oseira. I went this way because it was so cold, wet and windy and stayed in Castro where it snowed but it was early March. Looking through my journal I have written after lots of nice villages upwards climb and views...

    Sanabres Camino via Verin

Advice / Help / Tips / Experiences VDLP - Ourense to Santiago

Just to add to my post above, both the bus and train station are a little way out from the centre of Ourense but the VDLP goes past them, so it may be a case of going into Ourense to get your sello and walking out again. There was another train station in Ourense but I'm not sure if its still open.

Advice / Help / Tips / Experiences VDLP - Ourense to Santiago

Yes, I would recommend this, I think its quite different from the Ingles which I have walked a few times. But last year I walked from A Gudina via Verin and Ourense to Santiago. I caught the airport port bus and got off at the train station to get my ticket for later the same day, there are lots...

Advice on Via de la Plata

I walked part of this route from A Gudina via Verin to Santiago earlier this year and it was very quiet so hardly saw any construction work which is another option you could take on the Sanabres route. Perhaps more road walking this way than the northern route but I enjoyed the towns and...

    Beginner!

I walked this route last March and apart from the stretch out of Verin is very well marked.[The lady in the turismo said go to the end and turn left which you follow along the main road to Albarellos de Monterrei}. I'm Doing It!

Where to Find a Credencial in Seville (Update February 2013)

When I bought my Amigos guide to the VDLP I think I got it from the turismo in the centre of Seville but this was years ago so whether they still sell them I don't know, but it was very useful. Liz

I am planning to do this route in a couple of weeks, my plan is start A Gudina then Vendas da Barreira to Verin and stops in Xinzo de Limia and Allariz before reaching Ourense, I would like to take it fairly slow and have a good look at everywhere. I have'nt quite decided on my stops to...

Via de la Plata Feb/March More questions

Hi Viajero Buen camino. Good luck I am sure evrything will go really well. We were in Seville last November and had a quick walk out on the vdlp and it was marked really well. Big yellow crosses marked the way not to go and it was marked clearer than when I walked in 2004. Liz

Via de la Plata in late Feb./March: questions

I have also walked this route in Feb and March in 2004. The weather was a real mix but I never had any serious problems. In Banos it snowed and the locals said dont walk so I caught the bus to Salamanca and went back to finish this stretch after I reached Santiago. I stayed in a mixture of...

    Many Pilgrims This June?

Hola I walked the VDLP alone in Feb/March 2004 from Seville to Santiago and always felt safe, I did'nt see any other pilgrims [ apart from when I went back to finish a bit I missed due to bad weather] but always felt safe and also met more local people. They seem to look after you more when you...
