Postscript - I did love it! Very quiet - only saw 3 other pilgrims until Porto - a German lady, Roberto from Barcelona and Phil like me from the UK. Weather was pretty good and the Portuguese are such a nice bunch of people. Nice to have the first few days relatively flat. But my don't they...
Yes indeed - any easy decision for me - as soon as I heard Spain was going into lockdown my decision was made. The crazy thing to me was that 1 week earlier in Madrid there was no sign of a pandemic - no social distancing, no masks etc.
I was walking the Camino de Madrid last March. When I arrived in Madrid on the 8th there was no sign of anything unusual. A week later most of the albergues were shut and on the Saturday night I heard on the BBC that Spain was going into lockdown on the Monday. So I had a day to get back to...
I'll be 6 days behind you. Am flying into Lisbon on the 12th. Will be walking Lisbon to Porto as I walked from Porto to Santiago in 2019. Am fully expecting a 'quiet' Camino, with few in any other pilgrims but tbh that's what I've experienced in previous years particularly on the Camino de...
Thanks for the update. That's very encouraging - particularly for the people of Portugal. But maybe just maybe my Lisbon to Porto Camino might be possible this summer. Not counting any chickens, but fingers are well and truly crossed.
And the 90% effectiveness rate is (according to the BBC) at day 7 after the second injection (and subject to further data analysis), and more testing is required to confirm how long the vaccine will provide protection. Nevertheless promising news.
I had to cut my Camino de Madrid short a week ago. When I got back I cancelled the Renfe train I had booked - no problem (although it wasn't the easiest/most intuitive process to follow on the website). Couple of hotels that I had booked last Saturday on booking.com also accepted the...
Just an update - late on Saturday evening I heard Spain was going into lockdown from 8am Monday. I realised this Camino was over. Sunday was spent on trains, plane and automobile - resulting in my getting back to the UK Sunday pm. A shame but I can always return to complete the CdM when things...
Thanks Bob. I tried to book the one you mention in Sahagun some time ago but they replied saying they don't open until April. They referred me to Hostal La Escarcha and I have a reservation there for Wednesday. I've sent a message this week to check they are still open but haven't had a reply...
Thanks for all the help - it's much appreciated. I'll ponder the options on my 40 kms tomorrow with a single stop after 24 kms. Just hoping for a cloudy and cool day!
Should also say the locals have been fantastic - I was escorted to the hostal in Coca and they went and fetched the owner whilst I waited. Feeling somewhat more optimistic than I was this morning.
Many thanks - just what I wanted. I wasn't planning on 40 km days but if that's the 'price' then so be it. At least it looks doable. Will post my thoughts when I get back. Oh and the place you recommend in Medina has singles for £27 on booking.com - so thats one out of 3 sorted. Ideally I'd...
Hi I am currently walking the Camino de Madrid. All seemed relatively well until this morning when a lady in Santa Maria told me all albergues are officially closed - she showed me a spreadsheet on her phone with the albergues marked in red. The position was later confirmed when I arrived in...
