I checked Expedia for flights for mid-Autumn 2021 from St Louis MO to Lisbon.
Flight options were all over the place! Up to Toronto for lengthy layovers, one to Denver and tnen to Munich (?) and Frankfurt, several out of London and one, only one to Madrid ending in Lisbon; one did get close...
It has been one year -- a lifetime, a moment, a forever, and a "normality" which we shall never see again -- and I think of the elderly woman who stopped me on the Camino in 2002 who asked me to pray for her. I did. With tears, in Santiago, I prayed for her.
And yesterday, I received a...
And so our boots
In Covid times
Did sulk behind the closet door,
Bring we our Kelty and our Berghaus,
Our Lekis and our Hokas
To airport gates and passageways
Met with countenance masked and words unkind.
Bring us our compostelas unsullied, pure and white
Bring us our cafe, solo y con leche...
"Thanne longen folk to goon on pilrymagges .." Chaucer
Here we are, painting our doors, when we would much rather be walking through the door of an airplane to Spain, not leaning against our too-familiar kitchen door, shaking in tears, wearied, overwhelmed for one moment or many moments, awash...

On my 2002 Camino, as I crossed from the path across a gravel road, a tiny, wizened lady entirely in black appeared seemingly out of nowhere. She approached me with a questioning look, took my hands in hers, and spoke softly in Spanish. "Peregrina?" At the time, my Spainish was virtually nil...
Had me laugh-gulp-snorting my coffee! The wheelchair chap's muttered remarks in French -- Zut alors!
Witthout taking a single element away from Kiernan's brilliant and hilarious posts, I think if Heath Robinson and Ronald Searle ever walked the Camino -- it would look rather like this!
Herewith for the "cat" in Catheriam; Catherine in Latin.
Surprised with the rapidity this fell from my pen; maybe a syllable off here and there but ... this is me!
Camino longing
Like whining cat
Window scrabbling
At backyard bluebirds.
Had an 18 month secondment with Sainbury's Customer Service HQ and bravo their decision to support the elderly and vulnerable with exclusive shopping opportunities. Entirely within their brief as the standard bearer of British grocers.
My High Point NC Harris Teeter has been busy free from...
