I am on old man getting ready for my 10th and last Camino. I always used a bike. I had to push it up all the mountains. Now, I want an electric bike capable of getting me up the mountains, and that will recharge itself coming down. Any suggestions? Larry
Which is easier for an old road biker, from Porto, the coastal route or inland? Which has less hills? It looks like the distance are about the same.
Thanks
Larry
Looking for an easy 200 km ride to SDC. Am thinking about flying in to Porto and renting a car to Chaves. Bike to Verin and then the Via de la Plata to SDC. 200 km exactly.
Any ideas?

For my 10th and final Camino en bici, I would like to make it easy. The question is, does anybody believe that a documented beginning in A Coruna. direct to Finisterre, and terminating in Santiago would get me a Compostela? I calculate that it would be about 210 Km.
Is there any way that...
Sukim,
I have biked from Porto to SDC twice. I loved it. I am fat, old, and slow so it took me 6 days. I have rented from Bikeiberia several times. They are flawless. Located in Lisbon, but they send the bike anywhere you desire.
Bikeiberia is wonderful. Tania will be glad to call the Pilgrims Office and make the arrangement. Tell her Larry suggested it. I have rented from them 8 times without flaws.
Fatma,
Thank you so much for your detailed description. You have talked me out of the Bilbao route. We will start in Pau on bicycle. I thought it would be a change to start in Bilbao, but I am told it is very bicycle unfriendly. By the way, I went to medical school in Louvain many years ago...
Marianne,
I really perused the coastal route, traveling it on Google Earth in detail. It seems to be all roads. I am not sure what to do, but I am just going to go and see what happens. I will use a hybrid, as I am not into dirt riding.

Marianne,
That GPS map is very cool. It kind of excites me in to changing my plans. First I was going to start from Lisbon, then from Porto. Now, perhaps I will start from the Lisbon airport as previously planned. I will be going the end of May. The GPS route did not frequently follow...
Laurie,
Your description on getting out of the airport area is extremely helpful and I have printed it out. I am going to continue with my plans. It sounds like in just a few short kilometers out of Lisbon the road will be generous to bikers. I will just be careful.
Thanks
Hi Laurie,
I am old fat and brave. Not very smart or athletic. I was planning on doing the roads. At the airport I was just going to find a sign to the N-10 and go. Your description of the gutters does not excite me. I amn not sure what to do now. I have done the Camino Frances 3 times...
Oh Geez,
I am in my last stages of planning the Camino from Lisbon by bike. Now, I may have to reconsider.
I had decided not to take the coastal route, but go the way via Azambuja, directly from the Lisbon Airport.
