No to Gortex ! Almost ended my first Camino, and not from rain but from sweat ! Horrible blisters. Have switched to breathable Hokas and 4 Camino’s-no blisters
I’ve used Orange for my last 4 camino’s…buy a SIM card at the Madrid airport with no set time limit (as I’m in Spain for a couple of months) just a set amount. No problems at all
I’m a no to waterproof shoes … almost ended my first Camino with blisters from sweaty feet . Change socks if they get wet, and stuffing my Hokas works fine in drying them overnight
Wore waterproof on my first camino and got horrible blisters just from sweating feet. Now wear breathable trail runners and 3 more Camino’s with no blisters … even though had days of rain. Wool socks, newspaper overnight … worked for me
These are the tips I use, never have had to take them off as they grip so well. Have walked 3 caminos and many kms at home and only replaced one that I caught and pulled too hard. Found them on Amazon after someone mentioned them on the Camino forum. Just great !!! No more clacking for me...
I walk into the Orange store at the airport...hand the nice clerk my phone, he installs a new SIM card, gives me back my one from Canada, and I pay him. Never had a problem. Then I immediately text my husband the new phone number. Done .... Spain & Portugal
an S hook - hang my backpack, my dry cloths on the shower door (there is never more than one)
and a muslin baby receiving blanket (best lightweight towel, dries in a flash) - borrowed it from my grandson - he's not getting it back after three Caminos
I walked the Ingles in May 2018 ... brought a liner, needed up buying a fleece blanket along the way. It can be cool. For this year, a lightweight sleeping bag

On my first Camino, had the same problem with my baby toes ... horrible blisters. For my 2nd, found "silicone toe sleeves" - worked GREAT - No blisters Wore them every day !
I'm a tape fan ... tape my heels before I put on socks. My first Camino was cut short by blisters ... lots of blisters. Meeting a Camino friend - she showed me taping and my 2nd camino was blister free ! That's my way ... you'll need to find your own. (wide medical tape on both heels ... or...
All I took was the liner - walked 2017, April/May. Often there were blankets in the hostels - and if there weren't and it was cold ... slept in my clothes. Better than carrying a sleeping bag for the couple of nights that I could have used it.
I'm under-tall as well and finally found the Osprey 38 fit, once the back was adjusted. (little did I know that there were all sort of adjustments - pays to go to a store that has people that know their products). As to the water - I didn't like the bladders, but wanted to be able to access my...
