Open to criticism on my pack

Loved my earplugs in the albergues, but not needed in private accommodation. I brought a Turkish towel and was glad to have it. Towel isn't necessary if it is available from your private accommodations.

    What not to bring

The doggy bags are really general use bags that can be easily stored. I used them for garbage some times. I never had to use them for human waste, but knew where they were just in case.

    Men's pants recommendation

I am personally a fan of jogging tights with soccer (football) shorts over them. Warm enough, cool enough and super light weight with sun and bug protection. But that is just me.

Tips for Choosing Comfortable Ear Plugs

As a gift to myself, I had custom earplugs made. I went to the audiologist and they took a mold of my ear and had earplugs made in the same manner that they would make a hearing aide. They were super comfortable. You can lay on your side. There is a tiny plastic thing that sticks out from...

    Let's talk waist packs!

I was taught "Metro Security 101" in Paris many years ago. Anything you have should be on your non dominant side, preferably in a bag or possibly a pocket. All other pockets empty. This means you have only one side or one pocket to protect. Keep your non dominant hand over bag (and/or...

    Let's talk waist packs!

I think that a waist pack could be useful on the Camino, particularly in rural areas for all the reasons touted above. But I would strongly discourage its use in major cities (Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, etc), in any crowd or on public transport in Europe. It isn’t just marking yourself as a...

    Men's clothing recommendations

I walked in Sept/October/November. For bottom layer, I wore jogging tights with light weight soccer style shorts over them. I was comfortable in the heat and the cold. It also protected against sun and bugs.

    E-Sim card

10 cents per MB would equal $100 per Gigabyte. 0.10 X 1000 = 100.00 That would be very expensive

    E-Sim card

You can get eSIMs on line. You can get them for one country or a region. You can top them off. You can get another one for another country or region and it really is convenient. There are eSIM distributors. Airalo is one of the oldest (and I think it is the cheapest). You can keep your...

Gym leggings instead of "hiking pants"

I wore jogging tights with very light weight soccer shorts over them. They were good in the heat and the chill (Sept to Nov1) and my legs were protected from the sun and bugs. They dry so fast and there is no need for underwear and I had no problems with chafing. I highly recommend them. I...

    Recommended men's trousers please

I walked the Camino Frances last year and did not bring pants/trousers. I wore jogging tights under light weight soccer type shorts and was very happy with the results. Not exactly ”smart atire” after the camino, but I was very happy with the choice. It is super light, dries very fast, cool...

Trekking sticks are not permited in airplane cabin base on the TSA

TSA security officers have no discretion on this or any other number of matters. They simply did not do their jobs and let a prohibited item through. As mentioned above, alarmingly common

    Interesting Hi-Vis clothing seen...

I am bringing my yellow vest for visibility. Since I am traveling through Charles de Gaulle airport, I thought it would be hilarious if somebody thought I was part of the gilets jaunes movement. Not a political statement. I just don’t want to get hit by a car.

Best men's hiking pants for any Camino

I am not planning to wear pants. I am just going to wear jogging tights with super light weight shorts over them. I find that comfortable in both warm and cold weather.

Questions about “foot bag” for this year

My advice: I use betadine to clean intact skin before incising it. I do not use it in wounds. It can be used in wounds but should be diluted before irrigation. This can be done in hospitals and operating rooms. Practically speaking, it is easier to use mild soaps and water to clean open...
