My daughter started with Altra lone peaks last year. She loved them during her training but in Santo Domingo she switched to Keen sandals as she had some serious ankle and Achilles issues. I know everyone in the states swears by them but I don't see it either. I always wear boots on the Camino...
I can relate! Being a retired Paratrooper I have many foot issues. Keep it simple!
1. I get cortisone injections prior to each Camino. I've walked 7 thus far. I will return for 3 more in May.
2. I too take orthodics. I also take the original inserts in case my feet swell and need more room...
The liner weighs just 5 oz. Puff jacket only 10 oz. For less then 1 lbs you have a sleeping system as well as a puff jacket for cool evenings.
Make sure you give yourself a few weeks for delivery of the liner.
