I love my Pacerpoles. However, I've just completed the Camino Portuguese da Costa and used 'ordinary poles', which were fine, but not as good or comfortable as my Pacerpoles. If I were walking a longer Camino, I would check my Pacerpoles when flying to ensure that they weren't confiscated.
Of...
We tried ironing them on, using a tea towel over the badge for protection. However, they came loose about halfway through our Camino. We've just had them professionally stitched on my a seamstress and she's done a great job.
I've had 2 on order from Amazon UK, or so I thought. Ordered them on 1 January. Still not been delivered. Just found out that they're listed as out of stock! Can't get hold of any for love nor money! Have now ordered 2 from Decathlon as we head off in 4 weeks' time.
My poles have rubber tips and if I feel a bit uneasy about leaving them outside, I lay them flat under the bunk, out of the way. I only do this if I'm allocated a bottom bunk of course. Collapsing them first and putting them in the rucksack sounds like a good idea though.
Fellow PacerPole user here. Love mine too. Walked the Camino Frances with them in 2019 and Camino Ingles 18 months later. I'll be taking them with me again at the end of April to walk the Camino Frances again.
Thanks everyone. Some very helpful information here.
Think our best option will be to check them in at Santiago Airport. Great to know that they do it for free!
Nothing to prevent us checking them. Just wanted to ask if anyone had experience of either/both, so we could make a decision.
Never flown directly to the UK, from Santiago before, so again, thought we'd ask for others' experiences.
My husband and I plan to walk the Frances in May 2022. On our previous Caminos we've either checked our poles into the hold of the plane, or bought cheap poles and donated them at the end of the Camino.
This time, we're travelling to France (from the UK), by train. However, we plan to fly back...
I don't think they are available from anywhere except the UK. I think it should be fairly straightforward to place an order. An American friend has just ordered some, on my recommendation. They are made on the Lake District, in England. Good luck!
Nidarosa, we fly from the UK too. Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try. Do you put any padding round the poles, to give more protection? Also, do you just send them via regular mail from the post office?
