Long pants and long sleeves in summer? Smart or big mistake?

I generally wear shorts, but always a sun guard long sleeve shirt to protect my arms without having to keep applying sunscreen while walking ( which is a bit gross smeared with sweat and road dust...lol ) The sun shirts dry ultra quick and are not hot at all ) In addition, they're smooth like...

A word of warning on trail runners or light weight shoes.

    I use Vionic innersoles...no issue.

    Help with shoes!

I've just returned from walking the very short Camino Ingles, but with long days wearing Altras and orthotics...no issues. I agree with other posters that the cobblestones on the Portugues are a different consideration and would not have chosen Altras.( walked in 2018 & 2022) I've recently...

Hiking Poles - leaving them behind...

My travel companion did the same breakdown of her poles and applied rubber tips and diligently wrapped in plastic wrap, but was made to go all the way back to check them in nearly missing her flight… Iberia at Madrid heading for A Coruna and we had arrived in Madrid via Iberia with poles in our...

    Name on all my stuff?

On my first camino, only a few days out, someone placed their red striped wool sopping wet hiking sock on the same clothespin as my white hiking shirt...it bled all over my shirt and from there on I looked like I had been victim to a murder attempt. It obviously never washed out and I was not in...

    Name on all my stuff?

    I'm not above that...lol

    Name on all my stuff?

I purposely buy items that are not black or gray...because everything on the line will be black and gray...lol Those in a rush where an accidental grab may happen, might hesitate to take my wild flowered panties and bright shirts. As others mention intentional stealing happens and I don't think...

Gregory Zulu 40L as carry on.

The volume ( 40L ) is less of an issue than measuring the rigid frame and how small you can cinch the pack. Iberia was definitely checking carryon dimensions a few weeks ago as their flights were full, therefore overhead capacity was limited. The only reason we were allowed to keep our bags...

‘How’ do you organize your backpack?

I have 10 ultralight ditty system...I know when I put my 10 bags in I've got everything because I know I put everything away immediately after use in the correct bag. They are all different sizes depending on need: (1) largest bag/clothing ( two sleeveless tops, one long sleeve sun shirt, two...

Just for Fun, Packing Light Tips

Not for me either, though I had bought into the hype on my first Camino...I decided I looked like a walking tent and left it home! lol

Just for Fun, Packing Light Tips

Akin to a poster on this forum at some point stating she cut the 'gusset/crotch' out of her underwear ( to pee in the woods under her macabi skirt and less pack weight ) Bonus: better ventilation?

Need help cutting down on gear/weight in my pack 🙏

Lots of good advice already...I've walked Sept into Nov x 4, ( a few Sept only) and the only time I felt 'cold' was in the albergues at night. I do take a silk sleep sac and down travel blanket. My body was never cold, despite sometimes walking in driving rain / sleet. If you've a good merino...

Just for Fun, Packing Light Tips

Guilty: I cut the middles out of my q-tip swabs to save .25 ounces...Hey, it adds up!

Walking the way with a 6year old

We saw a family walking with a collapsible 'beach wagon' with rubber wheels...? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KRZYMXB/?tag=casaivar02-20

Shoes for wide feet, want to avoid problems with zero drop shoes

Agree @SeñorJacques ...in the 70's there was a brand called 'Earth Shoes'. We all had them in high school and they were designed to support natural body alignment. Birkenstock sandals/shoes do the same. I shamefully admit to owning 40+ prs of Birkenstocks, take them on the camino despite their...

Shoes for wide feet, want to avoid problems with zero drop shoes

Oboz have a wide toe box and decent comfortable tread underneath. Wore them on my second CF ( broke a bone on top of my foot on the first CF...story for another day ) , by default I needed a wide shoe that was well padded. Subsequent Camino's were much shorter and in good warmer weather, so I...

How to Properly Size and Fit Footwear for Distance Walking and Backpacking

That may only work if the woman is tall enough to buy a men's shoe as the height of the sides / heel are much taller in a men's than woman's...This was pointed out to a woman in REI as she was being fitted and insisting on a man's shoe. The clerk was correct, it was too 'tall' for her ankle...

    Favorite Toothpaste?

Ahhh you bring up a point that I've made in the past..."travel size", "sample size" items were NOT available in many small tienda / mercardo in villages and difficult to find in big grocery stores as well. What we found was family sized everything ( including shampoo ) ...so one would now be...

    Favorite Toothpaste?

I use "Hello" charcoal toothpaste tabs and put them in a pill bag instead of the metal tin. Another response stated they are a bit messy in the sinks, and I agree that the Lush brand was messy as it has more coconut oil in the ingredients. I'm a fan of Hello...use them at home, perfect for travel.

Compeed vs hikers wool or both?

"Compeed" is a brand name that makes numerous products for foot care. It might be helpful to state which product one is referring to when offering help. 1) I use Compeed Foot Glide anti friction stick liberally on my feet every morning before walking. I've found it isn't greasy and washes easily...
