Struggling with 1/2 size larger - Lone Peaks - insole recs?

Feet do grow larger during/after a Camino. Had to go up a shoe size after my first go-around. Try inserts, they dote d to help fill up a shoe. However, I recommend buying a quality one. The cheap Chinese insoles are junk, in my experience. With only a size 11, you can buy one size longer...

    Show me your backpack!

I use a Bergens Rondane 46 pack. It has two water pocket sleeves. One is full and the other half full, unless I anticipate a long stretch without water. use empty liquor flat bottles, plastic and 750ml. They just fit better. Also a 375 m” bottle in my front picket, filled with water. I...

    Sticks and Boots

Be aware there is a learning curve for poles. Also, if traveling to Spain by air, they will have to be in checked luggage. As someone said, buy your new shoes a size larger. I swear my feet grew that size, and didn’t shrink when I got home. All my original shoes are now tight!

    Boxer shorts - any recommendations

I recommend boxers with a nice pattern, as you may be walking around the Albergue in them. Solid colors are OK, but geometric patterns make you stand out!

OH NO! No more New Balance on the SL-2

I ordered a pair of these a few days ago. I used ASICS for my first go-a rounds on the Camino, but, again, they changed designs and their replacement is junk. With size 16, the choice is small out there. Hopefully the NB will fill the bill!

Protecting backpack during flight and from rain

I checked my bag on the first two Camino ventures. Used a IKEA blue bag, same bag for both trips. Bag is cheap and light in weight. Checked because of poles and a knife I liked. Next go around in March 24 will carry onboard. Had a bad experience with Swiss Air losing my bag for 5 days on a...

Shakedown request: February on the Camino Frances, 35 pounds current weight

I think your cousin forgot the rice cooker! Are you sure he is not hiking the Pacific Coast trail?

    What not to bring

I could leave the poker chips behind, but not my jalapeño salt. Absolutely necessary considering how bland Spanish food is.

    Robo…didn’t you mean “rice cooker”?

LIVE from the Camino Me and my umbrella - envy of the Camino

Real men don’t do face plants. We fall backwards and land on our packs/butts. Or at least I do. Think an umbrella would be the anti-drogue. Hate it when that happens and I resemble an overturned turtle!

    Flightbag

Big blue IKEA bag works for me.

The Art of Buying a New Backpack

Not all backpacks are created equal. Some are adjustable as to the length btwn the waist belt and shoulder straps, allowing a customized fit. I use a Bergans of Norway pack because at 6-7 I need one that can adjust to extra long. For some reason, I am on the Amazon Chinese made pack of the...

Reminder to keep your powerbank in your hand luggage!

I tend to keep my phone, which I use for its camera, close to hand. I have no concern with charging my power bank overnight, if necessary, but have heard too many stories of disappearing phones.

Shoes for Camino Portuguese after recovering from ankle injury

A good ankle brace would assist with your concern. I had failed ankle surgery and one was given me by my podiatrist. Locks up tight and I walked 150 miles on the Frances using it and low quarter shoes.

Day pack essentials (luggage sent ahead every morning)

Arriving by air, my main pack, a Bergens 46 liter, is inside an IKEA bag. As this Camino we are planning to ship ahead I just empty the bag into the IKEA bag and wear the nearly empty pack. It is more comfortable than a small bag and if we can’t make reservations one day and thus no...
