Useful item but hard to justify in your pack

My "Stick"! To roll out sore muscles-- I use it each morning before walking and usually after stopping for the day. I credit it with getting me through the first week of my first Camino. Took it on the second, and will pack it once again in a few months for the third. Many many other pilgrims...

    Favorite Luxury Item on Camino?

Oooo definitely The Stick! https://www.thestick.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=G-1750 Use it in the morning, in the evening, and sometimes on breaks ;) I credit it with saving my legs the first week and a half of my first Camino for sure! People would always ask to borrow it and I...

    Cheap Backpack (On a Budget)

The only downside of having a big bag is that if you have the space, you will try to fill it! And that's not always necessary. Good luck finding all your other supplies! I spend so much time at REI before Caminos that they should probably just hire me. Also recommend Sports Authority to find...

Just wanted to add another option- leave the phone at home! :) Of course this depends on how often you use it and feel you need to be in touch..... I was gone a total of 8 weeks, including 32 days of that on El Camino and LOVED not having my phone with me. Plenty of albergues and internet cafes...

    Liner Socks

When I read through threads like this I feel like I'm in a camp all by myself: I wore Montrail trail running shoes and thin "duo dry" Champion brand ankle socks from Target- *gasp* they're 70% cotton! No smartwool, no hiking socks, no liners, no boots- just like I was going out for a...

Wood Hiking Sticks/Poles Bring or Buy upon arrival?

Perhaps all these ideas could go together... tape a bit of that noodle on the bottom of sticks to prevent all the clickclacking   I always had to stop to let sticks pass, or hurry up until I was out of earshot. Nothing disturbed the peace more for me than the sound of poles and...

Walking on the RAIN in May. Trail shoes?

You could check these out as another option.... http://www.orssnowshoesdirect.com/cresc ... oties.html I had this bookmarked on my computer before I left at the end of September but didn't buy them. Just something to look into! There were some days when I wished I had them, though my feet...
