I left my smartphone charging cord at an albergue and unfortunately didn't have a spare, or a plug converter which was on the charging cord I left. I went to one of the Chinese shops, or Bazaar Chino as this one was called and purchased two charging cords there. Not expensive and worked great...
I've had best luck with the knee to almost knee length compression type underwear. Gusseted, support pouch and 100% synthetic. The term compression is a bit misleading because they're not that tight.
I've worn different brands like under armour and jockey.
For what you are carrying that pack should work fine and you can clip the sandals to the outside of the pack.
Most pilgrims (myself included) carry more than they need on the Camino.
I buy two sodas at the start of the Camino and after drinking the contents reuse the bottles as my Camino water bottles. I use sodas or similar because the bottles are thicker and have more secure lids than the ones used for the bottled water. They last me the entire journey and I throw them in...
The one issue I have with extended hand washing at albergues is that quite often there is other pilgrims waiting to use the clothing wash basins and I have to admit, quite a few pilgrims take a long time to wash their clothing whilst others wait. I equate it to spending a long time in an...
Since I don't walk the Camino to show off my clothing I have no problem only wearing the same two sets of shorts and shirts for 4-6 weeks. I rather like the grays and dark blues of my tech shirts, fleece pullover, poncho, parka etc. I find them very comfortable. It sure is a more varied variety...
You will need a winter rated sleeping bag in order to be warm enough to get a good night's sleep. There's a lot of them on the market. Of course they will be bulkier and heavier but there's some out there that weigh less than 4 pounds.
I've never babied my hiking equipment, so just like when I was in the army when I get home I just hose down my backpack (ruck) and using a medium bristle brush give it a good scrubbing with laundry detergent I have in a bucket. I then just hang it out in the sun to dry and later give it a light...
I recommend carrying an extra set of inexpensive reading glasses. On one Camino I accidentally left the reading glasses I had at an albergue. While not that big of a deal, it did take me a few days to locate and purchase another pair. Same goes for cellphone charging cord. Twice I've left my...
Wear your contacts and carry a pair of reading glasses to use when needed.
How much reading or looking things up do you plan on doing while walking in a pouring rain? 😄
The contacts give you distance vision which is what's important when walking outdoors anyway and give you the ability to see...
Loads and loads of Camino pins and the like available all up and down the route as well as any type or style of hat/cap conceivable as well as I'm sure caps and hats with various types of Camino logos on them.
When I walked the Frances October to November I carried a fleece pullover and a packable rain jacket. I survived. Didn't die even when it snowed on me. 😆
Sorry, I don't know what kind of fleece it was other than synthetic.
When it comes to quick drying hiking/camping towels which most pilgrims carry on the Camino you can't have your cake and eat it too. There's always going to be a negative to go with the positive.
I've always just carried the standard synthetic quick drying camping towel, it does an adequate job...
People actually return things after one year? Wow, that's like eating 3/4 of a meal and asking the waiter for a refund because you didn't like it. :D
I don't think I'd feel right returning something after I'd worn it for a week lol.
I've walked the Camino with and without trekking poles. The first time I walked it with a pair of poles I bought in Puente de la Reina I had an experienced pilgrim, cross country skier and hiker show me how to use the poles correctly and I found they made a big difference for me. I personally...
I use 3-4 cheap very lightweight nylon drawstring bags and put socks and underwear in one, toiletries and sunscreen etc in and another and so on. I really don't carry enough stuff that it needs organization. I'm not on a military long distance hike 😄, and I figure if I have so much stuff that it...
I've used blankets at albergues many times over the years and neither got bedbugs or scabies from them. I used them this last September through October on the Frances in fact.
I think your statement is unsupported and unless you have documented evidence of puts a baseless fear to prospective...
